tapping lifter?

tapping lifter?

how do i know when i have a tapping lifter? what are the signs of it? what exactly does it sound like? does anyone have a sound clip? thx!

Now i know sometimes a valve adjustment can help

the valve lash is adjusted automatically. hydraulic.

Mine taps..

usually when its been running for a while, then idling it does it... or when its extremely hot out... thats what I have noticed...

Are the JAM "non-ticking" lifters applicable to the Evo? They don't specify that they are only for the Eclipse, but they are not listed under the Evo section.

That's what the 4G63 is known for. Before you know it you'll get so use to the ticking you'll forget about it. Once in a while your friends may re-mind you of the ticking but that what makes a 4g63, I guess.

Unless one sticks you leave then alone. I use a stethescope to listen to mine (cost less than $5 from Harbor Freight). I you have one that taps find out why. There might be something clogging an orifice or it may be gummed up. Should you dilute your oil (detergent, solvent, or thinner oil) to free it, don't whine if you damage a main or rod bearing in the process.
