wow, i had the same problem twice.. i wrecked my first evo then had the troublesome decision AGAIN after i got the money back from my insurance company. Anyway, here's the deal..
1. if you plan to mod the car past catless exhaust, get the evo.. if not, the STi is the choice
2. If you're worried about interior and creeking.. get the Evo with leather, sun, and sound package. Looks so much better than the STi, IMO, and hell.. all the ladies love leather.. Sti seats are for sumo wrestlers.
3. Worried about warrenty? once you mod either car beyond cat back exhaust, the STi or the EVO, the warrenty is shot to hell.
4. STi's are played out, Evo's look meaner and are FU*king cool!
5. Evo dash ugly? have you seen the 2005 STi dash? now that's FUGLY

I guess if you're older and more responsible, the Evo is a better car.. the one thing that i've noticed as a result of driving both at autox and on the track (solo I), is that the evo is less responsive.. not in terms of handling and driving, but in giving feedback to the driver. It probably has something to do with the frame.. but the STi seemed to give me more "intuition" as to when it was going to completely lose it, where as the evo seemd to be holding its own then all of a sudden the back end would swing out and become uncontrolable. I'm not sure if it's entirely accurate, but it's what i've found after driving both a number of times. All in all, evo get's my 30,000 dollars

Big deal....but you know what....it only happened because a computer is controlling the handling. Thats sad. If you can't drive a car, drive a EVO. I watched something funny lastnight, actually I videotaped it. 2 MR's raced at a demolition derby. They competed in a "Spectator Drag Race" which was one lap oval drag racing. Winner advances. The 1st MR got beat by a 97+ Camaro...stock. The second MR won the event..but got his car destroyed in the process. The back bumper got smashed, and he now blows bluish/yellow smoke.......whata smart EVO owner...typical. I would post the video but I don't have the program to download it to my computer. One of the EVo owners is on this board...I will save him the humiliation and keep his name quiet.
After watching the MR's run around the track I am convinced that they really don't handle all that great. They both almost crashed going into turns...yeah I have it on film. The cars pushed through the corners. Where is that great handling?
oh yeah...the Camaro driver was a female.
One more thing......go onto the STi boards.......you won't hear or see one thread about the EVO. They don't complain about them or talk"junk"...like I see here all the time. All this board seems to do is whine about STi's....why?

please shut up, seriously. Nobody cares what "you have seen" go read ANY magazine, or watch ANY professional TV show (i.e. topgear, 5th gear etc)... The Evo can outhandle your STi anyday of the week, and thats with PROFESIONAL DRIVERS. Accept it pal, cause its the truth. You can throw all the money you want into your STi and it'll still be an understearing scooby doo. I really dont care if you've seen a few poor drivers do some ****ty driving in an Evo. I bet they'd be just as bad in a Ferrari Enzo, does that mean it sucks compared to your STi? I saw an STi lose to a civic yesterday, what does that mean? NOTHING.

Thats what I dont get about you suburu people. You seem to think that we all hate on your car, because you take offense to the TRUTH. When a car is better than yours in a certain way will you please suck it up? I'll admit that the STi is probably a faster straight line car (although its really a drivers game stock for stock), and i'll admit that the interior on the STi is much nicer... If I see an STi on the streets I give'm a thumbs up. So quit crying that the Evo is a better track car man... ****.

My buddy works for SportCompactMag, everyone there preferred the Evo...GSR and MR over the STI...I think Forbes Magazine (a financial publication) put the STI above the Evo, probably because of the strength of the company and crash testing (and they are old farts)...

At present the Evo is the more sophisticated performer...Subaru will step up to the plate, but it will have to be along the lines of the JDM RA Spec-C to compete.

Not true...I have had friend's heavily modified getting new engines and trannies without a problem...Evo on the other hand ...Trannies aren't really an issue with the STI 6-speed, unless you are a total jacka$$ anyway.

Sure, Subaru just gave "your friends" new engines and trannies after heavy modification. That's the most rediculous thing i've ever heard.
