silver paint cost

Has anyone else thought of this? Usually metalic paint costs more. This is how they keep the base price down. I have heard that many cars will be silver. Coincedence, I think not.
I love silver. The car is under $30000 but you have to buy a cf wing and silver paint for $2500. Just a thought.
Does anyone have any cost info on this?

Doubtfull that there is an extra cost because we know the ONLY two options are the wing (small hopefully the optional one) and the sunroof.

Usually "metallic paint" is listed as an option if it's extra

Most japanese imports use cheap paint. If you've owned a japanese car made in japan you would know the paint there is very thin. Base coat clear coat. Nothing like a 7 coat bimmer or 12 coat mercedes benz which actually charge you for metallic paint.

The domestic paint by dupoint is much better in quality even if it's 2 layers. Another word i doubt it's extra cost.

Don't count on it. The Evo has always been known to have crappy, thin, easy to chip paint.

On the contrary, Japanese cars have always had better paint jobs than American cars. If you ever seen paint on the Tauruses , Camaros, etc. They don't seem to have the gloss of say the Subarus and Sentras, etc. Also American ones don't last as long. I look at old GMC trucks, and Mustangs they seem to dull. I see far more better import jobs.

So what color is most resistence towards chips or holds up the best? Does use rally red in any other cars? I know the TME evo VI had a different shade of red.

I have a feeling that our pait is as good as subaru's

They're all about the same, and it's really not bad. The paint that I see wears pretty good.

The red should be the exact same red that is on the OZ Rally's already.

I've already arranged to have clear vinyl applied to the front of my car before I pick it up, all leading edges. They use a lot of sand on the roads in Co.

It costs $250.00 for the "full" treatment (bumper and all)

A buddy of mine did it on his Audi and he had to point in out to me it was so hard to see. I recomend it to anyone especially if you're heading for the dirt/gravel

I guess we'll see. I have read pages of complaints from Evo owners about the thin, easy to chip paint.
Btw, I really don't think Japanese cars have better paint than American cars. Some American companies are good, some Japanese companies are good. Ever seen some of the paint jobs on Fords, such as Sonic blue, Mystic, etc.? They are pretty top notch. Then you look at the red Evo at the auto shows and it leaves a lot to be desired...dulling and swirls. It really is not that great of quality. I don't care if it IS under flourecent lighting which shows imperfections..no new or fairly new car should look like that. I STILL plan on buying an Evo but I won't buy a color that will age quickly such as red and black. I think I'll stick to silver or white.
Who knows though..maybe the production cars/current Evos will be better than past Evo's and some of the ones at the shows.

Here are some quotes from Evo owners:

"Is it me or is the paint quality pretty rubbish ?

I have the Canal Blue TME, is it just this paint ?

They are not just on the front airdam, but on the bonnet, the windscreen pillars and on the rear arches.

I have had many cars/makes (Fiat, Alfa, Ford, BMW, Audi, Scooby) over the years, and have never had as many stone chips appear so quickly on a car."

Another:

"No it is not just your colour , i have a satalite silver model and i accuired about half a dozen chips in the first week end i had the car , 9 months on and i am still arguing with the supplying dealer about having them fixed , matter (or so they tell me ) is now with ccc !"

Another:

"This is a problem with all Lancers, perhaps they were trying to keep the weight down. You don't want to know what my old 4 looked like after 50,000 miles. The black covering on the bumper mesh also gets badly chipped after a while.

My silver 6 already has more than enough chips, thats why I'm getting the complete front bumper resprayed, the bonnet chips sorted then the front of the car Stone Guarded. Also gonna to put some stainless steel mesh on."
