I Am Freakin Out !!!!!
sincerly agree with ^ when you drop your car off for work do be done on you car, you are giving them permission to test drive your car, esspecially if you are having tires put on. if a tech didnt drive a car after putting tires on, how would he know if there was problem or not. and taking it to another facilaty to do the work seems ok. just check you car over, look at the milage and then look thru the car. make sure everything is there and you dont have a ton more miles on the car than when you droped it off. granted i would be upset in your situation also but this isnt something to get stressed out about. just handle it professonally and things will turn out into your benifit. peace out
That's why I always stay at the shop with my car and I watch them the whole time. Also just tell them if it needs drove anymore than from the parking space to the bay that they need your permission. It won't help this time but in the future it will. I hope everything is ok either way.
did you write down the miles of the car before you drop it off??? And your friend is "running errands?" Looks like the shop owner and your friend are joy riding you car......................................just kidding...stop worrying! Your car will be fine.

true....but just keep in mind....you're going to have your car when it's all over...and hopefully you won't have to pay for any damages...if there are any........
i know who the employee is...but after it was all over....he mysteriously wasn't working there anymore.....but no one admitted to anything.
good luck with your situation....i'm sure everything will be fine.

This is the reason why i put my car on jack stands and took the wheels off and had the shop mount them on the wheels and left the car at my house...I never trust anyone with stuff like that. Good luck to you and I have to say that I would be equally pissed off. Not asking for your permission is main thing. That is YOUR car and not theirs. So what if they had an overflow of work then they should not have said it would ready by lunchtime and/or called you and told you it was not ready and that it needed to be moved to another shop. That is pure BS, if I couldn't solve it with violence i would call a lawyer right now probably and the police as well to file a report. Taking a car without permission is known as grand theft auto. Be like Dave Chappell....keep it real.

Look, maybe I'm being a little unreasonable and maybe by dropping your car off to have tires mounted on DOES give permission to drive it. HOWEVER they didn't drive it after mounting the tires to check alignment or any other BS that someone would have to check the car for that you yourself couldn't do. They drove it with the old tires on to go install them. There was no evaluation of work or process. They drove his baby without informing him of where it was going, who was driving it or when it would return; or even where the other shop was. I myself would be very uneasy about this and WOULD take action. You just don't conduct business that way, If you take your child to the doctor or take your dog to the vet, they dont grab the thing and take it to their "other" clinic to help them because the first one was too busy. They make you wait untill they can get to it AT THAT LOCATION. Granted he dropped his car off and left, however this is no excuse for lack of communication. Its just shady.
Typically when you have new tires put on they check to see if they were properly balanced and that means driving it out and testing it. Sometimes at highway speeds too.
In this case I would be a little upset because they did not call and ask permission to drive it to another shop. Test driving or not that is not good business in my book. Who knows what they are doing with his car. They could be doing some aggressive driving or hard launches. I would be upset with the way they handled this. I would definitely check the whole car and look for clutch smell when they get back.
I went with a friend to the a local VW dealership for his scheduled oil change. He just recently installed a supercharger on it and we figured we would wait on it while is was being worked on. He knows somebody who works their from some of the car shows he goes too and wanted to show me the guys GTI that was parked around back. When we walked back there a young guy was haullin azz past us in my buddys car. He made a quick left out of the dealership peeled out pulling away. We could hear him bark tires on every shift and just by the # of shifts we heard he had to be going close to 100mph. The guy came pulling back in about 5 minutes later and was immediately fired. You can't trust anybody these days, not even the dealership.

UPDATE
So I get the car back, and it only had 13.5 miles on it. From where his other shop was, 13.5 I can totally deal with. No burnt clutch smell, verything seemed fine!
NOW THE NEW ***KING PROBLEM
My rims are trashed. They completely just messed my rims up. Going into this my 1 rim had one 2" inch curb rash on the lip ( Ihave babied this car for 1.5 years). Now all my rims have a 8 inch lip gash where they pulled the tire off. I pointed this out to the owner and he basically said "Since I didn't check the rims when you dropped the car off, and now your saying those are there, it's my fault". Which in turn I personally take it as "we were stupid, didn't cover our asses and now your trying to pull a quick one on us to fix the scratches you put there". He also tried to say that this was normal on that type of rim and I would have gotten the same results from any other shop. I called bull ****, and told him I personally have seen 5 other EVO's have new tires put on without so much as a hair line scratch.
In the end he said he would take care of me, whatever i wanted, have them repaired, or new rims. (My firend who recommened the shop was trying to tell me he would pay for the damange, but it's not his responsability)
I'd normally go for repair it, you know; I just want my $h!t back the way it was when I dropped it off.
BUT
Since they took my car and didn't inform me of where they where taking it and trid to play off the scratched rims like I did it. I'm getting new rims.
Anyone know a web site that sells the stock rims?

If you pick your car up and there is a nice burnt clutch smell then id be really pissed.. but other then thats its kinda hard to beat on this car..i mean plenty of guys bounce off the rev limiter every day.. i garuntee somebody else isnt going to drive it as hard as you will.. probably dont even realize what its capable of.
Glad that you didnt get a call from the police saying your car was @ a lot TOTALLED! I would of went off like a firecracker if they fcked my rims up.
Goodyear did manage to put a scratch there. But the guy came to me immediately and told me what had happened. So I wasnt pissed.

i would be just as pissed as you are now. i have had many problems with the dealer in rockville that services my car. i had been leaving it until they called me. but i was noticing that there was more than 25 miles added to the odometer everytime that i left it there. most of the work was the free scheduled maintnence except when i had the 6 disc changer installed. they should not have to drive it anywhere for those services. more so for the cd changer. i can see about 5 miles or so to see if everything i working properly, but not 25+ miles everytime i drop it off. i think the techs are taking turns beating up on my car. that pisses me off so much.
