NOISE after Hallman install

I installed my hallman pro yesterday. While driving around today, the car started making a whineing noise under boost that was not heard before. It starts at around 7psi and continues till around 15 psi. I don't think it's a bad turbo, as I just installed it about 400 miles ago(new TME from vishnu). I also have an MR diverter valve if that makes a difference.

Any ideas?

You may be hearing your AC.

Mine car makes a whining noise while in boost only when the AC is on.

Just a thought!

Probably nothing detrimental!

This keeps cracking me up (when it's true). Are you using the stock intake box, and is your snorkel fastened down? The 7psi raising to 15psi isn't the same symptom, but it does tend to happen after installing an MBC, and the whistling noise is very weird.

thanks guys.

The noise occurs w/out the ac on, and I have an apexi intake and induction box.

Also, the car holds boost fine, it's just noisier after the hallman. Strange.

Any other ideas

You have a boost leak check all of your connections. This same thing happened to me and I found that one of the hoses was not properly tightened. Check all clamps and do a boost leak check.

thanks!

I'll try that. it should be easy to locate, as it most likely has something to do with the hallman install.

Just out of curiosity, if it is a leak, wouldn't that show on the boost guage ? Right now, it holds 19psi rock solid.

Also, could these symptoms described be a sign of compressor surge? I've never experienced it before, so I don't know what to look for.

-thanks

Compressor surge is when you let off the gas under boost, and the BOV doesn't open to let the boost pressure out, and all that pressure goes back to the turbo causing it to try to spin backwards. It's kinda like putting the car in reverse while driving forward...

I don't think this is your problem. Yes, a leak would show on the boost gauge - the psi reading would drop if the leak occurs at a higher boost level, but if you're leaking as early as 7psi, then you are probably making the turbo work HARDER to overcome the leak just to reach 15psi. If this is the case, you'd have a pretty obvious and sizable leak.
