I made my own catch can for 20 dollars, I hooked it up to the PVC line and it catches a ton of oil. I put another one on the intake pipe but it never really catches anything so I just removed it.

I made mine for about 5 bucks. Got 12" hose and a see through fuel filter and hooked it up between the intake and valve cover port. Works great. I change it whenever I change the oil. You can see the difference between old and new.

Or you can just attach a breather filter to the headcover barb and forego the catch can altogether ;-)

BTW, I "graduated" to the breather filter from the Cusco catch can which caught a LOT of blowby oil. I can't even imagine the mess if all that oil ended up in the MAS pipe and further down the plumbing! What a crappy design, IMO, (without the catch can that is) to begin with!

How does the ralliart catch-can look like? Is it evo-specific?

I don't know if it is Evo Specific -- but it has a chrome finish and says Ralliart on the side. It's a very nice looking catch-can. I'll try to get some pics up later on -- I just need a place to host them.

you shouldnt be collecting much at all once your evo is tuned.. but stock your car is running pig rich and you will get alil bit.. now if you are REALLY collecting oil, then your piston rings are blown.....

as others stated, it will prevent oil from collecting in the turbo, which overtime will prevent heat dispersion.

How is AFR going to affect oil in your top end?

You have to remember too that the catch can is not smog legal so if a cop stops you and knows about smog devices, he can give you a fix it ticket. Also it's not really necessary because if it was, wouldn't Mitsu. put one on even if it's not the "expensive" ones like Greddy?

Have you ever taken a stock intercooler off a high mileage DSM? The insides are coated w/ a thick film of oil from the valve cover breather port. The insides of the intake hose and lower ic pipes are also all coated w/ the same film of oil. Having a catchcan will certainly help keep the intake tract cleaner, baffled or not.

I've had my greddy catch can sitting on my desk for the past year because I've been too lazy to make a bracket to mount it. I'll probably get around to installing it within the next few weeks now that school's out.

Please explain how running pig rich will increase blow by? Just b/c you are collecting oil does not mean your rings are blown. Running a high performace engine hard is going to cause some blow by. There is just no way around this.
