DIY first and if you can't handle it, then there's always a shop that will do it for you.

I want to do more stuff myself, but time is never on my side. So I shell out the money to a few very good shops I know.

It depends on my mood and the size of the job. I have more money than time.

I do the regular things myself. Electronics bolt ons, brakes. I let my man Gil do the cams headbolts and fuel pump. He also did my AFC and Evc. I did the clutch, Intercooler and piping myself. Turbotrix tuned my car. I do about 85% of the wof myself.

I do all the maintenance work, and little bolt ons. But when it comes to internal parts and tuning, I leave it to the professional.

i do everything myself. i have an 89 240sx that a friend and i rebuilt the motor. mild swap project. 93 motor into an 89. port and polished head, 12:1 comp. ratio (something different), cams, reflashed ecu, 370cc injectors, walbro, and painted the block and cover. i left for this deployment right before i could get it running to get it tuned... when i get home in a few weeks, i can post some pics if anyone is curious if it installed. heres a pic of it on the stand.

I kindda do both...I ask a friend in-the-know...or someone from the shop to show me how to do it...I do it hands on the 1st time and pay them in beer or money...then I will know how to do it for the rest of my life...

I have been working on cars since I was old enough to hold a wrench. I do all my own work. It is much more rewarding to do it yourself and when you are cheap like me it saves a lot of money. Plus you learn so much.

I pretty much try to do what I can....which usually means I drive over to my Dad's and he helps me and/or does most of the work.

I'm looking to do most of the basic bolt ons myself, and get an SAFCII tuned elsewhere. There is a local DSM shop that I'm hoping can do the tuning for me, if not, it'll be AMS in Chicago.
