i was just wondering what is the function of the pipe that runs from the back of the motor and goes under the stock air box. ( the pipe is metal and has black mesh sections on it) . I see many people have installed an intake in place of the stock air box (sr intake?).

 

You mean the upper intercooler piping?

It leads to the intercooler.
