Review of my first mods. What next?
Hey Guys
I installed my first mods this weekend. They were all purchased from Dan at Mach V.
Injen intake with IC pipe kit
Forge Motorsports diverter valve
Turbo XS downpipe
The intake was a pretty straight forward install but it took me longer than the 45 minutes some folks say they did it in. The toughest part was getting the IC pipe connected at the IC. You do not need to take off the bumper but you do have to remove the splash guard under the engine. You also have to jack up the car. If you dont you cannot get to the lower connection. I had to play with the pipe a bit to get everything to fit correctly which is tricky and the clamps they give you are crappy making it hard to get everything sealed up. In fact I got stuck on the side of the road when the connection between the IC pipe came off (that was a loud pop).
The Forge Motorsports diverter valve is a nice piece but I think I got the older version. I need to get a boost gauge but I think the valve is leaking under boost. I think I am going to return it and get either the turboxs valve or the new FM valve for the Evo. Does anyone know what the major differences are?
The TurboXS downpipe is a very nice piece. My neighbor has a lift so the install was easy. They do not give you any instructions, which would be nice to have at least for installing the spacers. I tried many combinations but in the end I had to install some extra washers and longer bolts to get it to clear the braces under the car.
Results:
The car feels stronger on acceleration but I don't think its as strong as it should be. Anyone have any ideas on this? I am thinking I could really benefit from a boost controller and some sort of fuel controll. I am thinking about getting the Greddy Profec B and either the Vishnu, Utech, or Dynoflash. Opinions?
I also recently got a Benvenito Carbon Fiber Dash kit. The appearance of the pieces is very nice but alot of them are cut poorly. There are sections missing from certain parts that make them look cheap and tacked on. Does anyone sell replacement trim pieces and not overlays?
If this review is redundant let me know and I will just post questions in the furture.
thanks
Pete

Hmm, strange that you got a DP first, since that won't really help now, although it will help later.
Suggestions:
1) Upgrade to the stock airbox and stock IC piping
2) Upgrade to a fully recirculating BOV
3) Upgrade the part of the exhaust that is helpful...cat-back first, then a cat replacement
4) MBC + boost gauge (don't do the MBC w/o a gauge)
5) Tuning device (flash and/or piggyback like s-afc, utec, xede)

Since the downpipe is the first pipe the exhaust enters then why is wrong to do that one first? If I do the catback without addressing anything before it then why would I see any worthy results?
I agree the stock instake is a nice setup. I was very suprised to see how nice the stock intake and IC pipes are constructed. I came from an M3 and before that an Ecplise GSX and on those cars the factory intake was a complete nightmare.
Anyway thanks for your advice (even though your tone was supposed to make me fell stupid).
