I have been chasing some issues out of my second owner 03, an still have a few issues ratling around to deal with (clunky shifter). I am interested in how a stock evo should compare with other rides. I have had two encouters with Trans Am's, and it seemed like the TA had a bit more punch to offer. I chased one from a start from idle at a light, and he was able to put a car legnth on me before I could get going, and the best I could do was hold that distance. Does that sound right? If I could have put some revs on before launch I would have done better, but I wasn't looking to race. He was.

Is it doing what it should, or should I be looking for a problem?

 

Well if you didnt launch it, I am assuming you started around 1500 rpm, and in first gear with no mods, it will take a couple seconds to be under boost. Do the basic mods and it will be a night and day difference. About the clunky shifter, put the underhood bushings and the shifter base bushing on and that should take care of it.

 

chased one as in he was already moving before you started moving? If that's the case then a stock evo will do about what you said. It'll hold that distance and not really gain any. with a stock hp evo you'll have to beat him out of the hole with your AWD.

It depends on a few things. Which TA a normal one a WS6? Without a launch yes I would expect him to pull ahead at first. After that I guess it goes back to my first question. My car isn't stock and I pulled on a WS6 hard but I did launch at about 4k.

 

I was about 3 seconds from giving it some revs to pull a better launch when the light changed. I didn't feel like provoking him, but I didn't want to look bad either. He went first and I did a slightly above standard launch. When I saw his puffs of black smoke from going WOT, all I could do was open it up and wait for the boost from the very bottom of 1st gear. I think it was a stock TA, I didn't look for the WS6 badge tho.

I want to put some mods on it, got to get the $$$ past the Mrs. We are days out for a big getaway in Jamaica. I'd love to put a EBC on it, a big IC and a good exhaust; provided it doesn't make the car sound like a weed whacker (stock sound or a little more would be great). I spent 10 years in a 5.0 Mustang with a big bore exhaust, I'm tired of the noise.
