What kind of turbo is that?

Is this an MR turbo 2005? or even a GSR 2005? Is this 10.5 hot side with oval WG?

How can I tell?

thanks

Me too, but I would first like to know what I have. I hate 9.8 hotside!

see that little circle thingy on the larger side, I think you lift that up and see, But I think thats a new version 10.5 because the older version had two holes while the new version 10.5 has one circle with a center divider making the two openings oval. I could be wrong but my money is on its a new version 10.5T with oval openings

If you look just inside the opening of the housing, it should have 9.8 or 10.5 cast into it.. That is a LATE 2004 or newer hot side housing though..

if its a turbo from a USDM car, all the 05 turbos are the same.. if its a JDM MR, the compressor cover should have TD05HRA where the GSR would have TD05HR on it.

Also, the difference between the earlier housing is that wastegate flapper is oval covering two ports, not round, if you opened the flapper, it should have two openings that are half-circles..

Well the turbo is on the car now and i did not open the flapper to see what’s under it. I can assure you that the flapper it self is not oval though!!! Is there a way to tell while the turbo is on the car? Please be specific as much as possible. The cold side has 10.5 on it though.

Thanks

Okay... here's the deal.. unless you got a JDM turbo, the odds are almost 100% that you got the 10.5 housing.. With the late style flapper, I've only seen ONE turbo with that flapper and a 9.8 housing, and it was a JDM turbo.

So if came off a USDM car and it says TD05HR-16G6-10.5t what you got was a USDM 2005 turbo with the 10.5 hotside.

Did you take off the ATP kit? The 10.5 turbo will prob be better for autocross, than the larger 3071 that you had.

Like the others have said, I'm pretty sure that what you have is a newer 10.5 hotside turbo.

What is 10.5 hotside (forgive my ignorance)? I have a 2003 Evo. Can I put 10.5 hotside on mine?
Can you put 10.5 hotside on ATP turbo kit?

10.5 hotside(Larger exhaust side of turbo) is on all the Newer Evos' you can purchase this for your car to make more power, would not work with ATP

yes you can put a 10.5 hotside on your turbo...i think dyno4mance.com and forcedperformance and some others have it for sale. The 3071 ATP turbo kit has the 3071 hotside or whatever i think it may be larger than a 10.5.
