SCC Evo article

Just read the driving impression in the new Sports Compact Car mag, nothing new really except that we probably won't miss the AYC or the ACD since it handles really well w/o them. However, an interesting thing they added as a foot note is that they claim will not have a limit on production, as long as people buy the Evo's, they will make 'em. Does that contradict the 6500/year number we were given?

I read that too, I assumed as much all along. Remember, Mitsu likes to make money, and Im sure if they can sell 20,000 Evos they will try to build 20,000 Evos. The way I look at it, the fact that its availible in America is a clear indicator the car is no longer a limited production item.....

Either way, its good news for us...

cant import more than 10000 per year. The Evo has a 2.5 mph front bumper it is in the semi-exotic category (ie less than 10.000 vehicles per year) If they go over 10,000 cars per year they must have a 5 mph front bumper. it took a long time to get a 2.5 mph bumper. besides isnt planing on making a ton money on the evo all they want is a car that gets people into our showrooms so they purchase our other products.

Yeah, I had a feeling that would happen too, despite 'limiting' production to 6500 Evo's. I think the Evo is now marketed to a larger audience than it was with the V or the VI. The fact that pulled out of this season's World Rally Championship also puts a damper on the whole thing, the Evo 8 (or VIII) will be the first model year an Evo isn't in the WRC although it seems to be doing well in the SCCA rallies here in the States. Hopefully they'll be back in the WRC next year, although I've heard rumors of going with a Colt platform as opposed to the Evo platform. Should be interesting.

Is that right? I'm not doubting you, but I've never heard of that difference between the 2.5 and 5 mph bumper. Do you have any links describing this in a little more detail?

actually rax, he is right. there are a number of governmental restrictions that manufactuers must hurdle and to try and be fair the Gov stair-steps limits on bumper and emmision restrictions.

If I can find the info on the web I will post it.

Just a quick question guys,
assuming they are producing 6500, are those going to be 2003?

Also, when would they bring the 2004? around Sept, October, like the other car manufactures?

thanks

Very interesting. I have learned something new. I too thought it was wishful thinking to assume that the EVO would ever be a mass market car. If it was previously handmade by Ralliart, then how could they suddenly double production even if Mitsu took over production. 4-6000 units is all, I think they will/should ever make. Keeping it exclusive is part of the car's mystique and having too many would dillute the market and perhaps cheapen the cars flavor overall. Plus an new "evolution" every couple of years also makes things interesting. Besides, that same plant has to pump out regular Lancers and Outlanders which are by far more mass market vehicles and bigger moneymakers for Mitsu, the EVO won't exceed either of them in production.

For some reason learning that mitsubishi can't produce more than 10k a year makes me happy. Of course I am getting my car in the first shipment and for msrp. So I feel like i paying a correct price, and i don't want this car to become "common"....

I agree, my past 2 cars before the WRX were Mustang Cobra's which were limited productions also. It was kinda nice knowing I wasn't going to bump into one on every street corner.

Yeah, when will the 2004 model be introduced, and does anyone have any idea on the changes from 2003? (Yes I know the first one isn't even here yet, but I'm curious )

Besides, I'm in the camp holding out for a front LSD...

Sorry to rain on you all here but, the EVO will be seen plenty on the roadways... Don't believe you will be the only one on the road with one.... It's not an accord or camry, but it will still be seen plenty...
