The problem is definitly with the Zeal Coilovers. You should take them off and sell them to me immediatly for a very cheap price.

Any new news on this? I have the exact same symptoms with my Buddy Club setup and it's only on the drivers side front. It drives me nuts going over bumps and hearing/feeling this constantly. Most people say that just live with it because it is part of owning coilovers with no rubber isolation. I have checked many things over and haven't found a culprit. I'll check the bolts that hold the camber plate on next because I haven't done that yet.

Any other suggestions?

I have the same problem with my newly installed KSport coilovers.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for new ideas/updates!

The wierd thing is, when I tighten all the bolts, the noise/vibration goes away.

After a while it comes back.. I don't see how it can be normal..

...but thats what every1 keeps telling me.

I took the wheel off and tighted all the perches and lock nuts. I tightened the 3 bolts that the camber plates tie into the body with. Everything was already tight! The only thing I could turn without much force was the top 21mm nut that sticks out the very top of the strut rod. It clamps the strut into the pillow ball bearing. I couldn't tighten it without a way of restraining the strut from turning with it. I am picking up a pin spanner wrench today to grab some holes on the very bottom of the strut to see if I can tighten it any more. A subie friend of mine that knows cars very well says that is what loosens up on his from time to time.

In addition, I compressed the suspension while on the car with a jack to see if I could find anything. It moved without any hint of binding. The spring and strut still seemed to have some travel left from ride height before bottoming out. In fact, some of the loudest noises come from expansion cracks. There is no way I am bottoming out on expansion cracks!

I find it weird also that sometimes the noise is bad, sometimes it's not. It is usually the worse when coasting to a bumpy stop with the clutch in. I don't know if there is any correlation to this, but I have noticed it is noisier when the car is hot from running for a while. It is usually quiet right away when everything is cold.

Mines is similar, when going over bumpy roads. I also notice it a lot when i reverse and turn, like when i'm reversing out of my driveway. It's very noticable then..

I duno.. let me know how that goes w/the spanner wrench.

I fixed my Buddy Club noise. I bought a bicycle tool I was familar with from being a bike mechanic for years (Park Tool SPA-1). It is a pin spanner wrench. It just happens to fit perfectly in the bottom of the strut by the adjustment nut. I was able to tighten the piece in the picture about 1/4 turn. Took it out for a test drive, and no more clunk!

I hope all works out for you, and it's something that simple.

Tim

I'm not sure if your Zeals have the same arrangement as the Buddy Club. If they do, you can find the tool I bought at most local bicycle shops that have a Park tool display. It was $10. You can also buy spanner wrenches at most Sears, but they are much more money.

If you have a picture of the top and bottom of the Zeals, I may be able to help offer suggestions for what may be loose.

Your Zeals look very similar to my Buddy Clubs in their design. Depending on where you set ride height, you may or may not have an easy time reaching the set of holes near the adjustment knob on the bottom of the coilovers. I would think this same Park tool would help tighten that piece if you could reach it. Not sure though because I see some extra hex head nuts down by the adjustment knob that I don't have. I would just try to tighten everything if I were you.

It looks like the top pillowball area is also similar to mine, but you have an internal socket head cap screw inside the large 21mm nut. I would try tightening both, but don't go nuts. The large 21mm nut on top will try to spin the hole spring assembly if you torque it too much.

One thing I really like about your Zeals is that you have a brake line mounting point. The Buddy Clubs don't have this, so I have zip ties holding everything in place. It works, but I would feel more comfortable with your setup.
