So when I shut the car off, towards the very end of the "de-ignition" sequence, the engine makes this knocking sound for about 1/2 a second. It kinda sounds like the same sound you get when idling with the a/c on and the compressor kicks in.

Reminds me of what worn engine mounts might sound like, and the car shakes mildly.

It's slight, and short, and not too loud, kinda like a worn-in evo probably should sound, but I'm curious to see if anyone else has experienced this.

more noticable now that my engine damper broke

 

OK, so an engine damper actually helps this out a bit? I bet it helps with the a/c idle as well.
