Stock BOV on Backwards?

OK well i just got my evo on tuesday and lastnite one of my friends got in and drove around with me and was wondering want kinda BOV was in the car. i had told him it was stock and he didnt believe me. Apparently i lie to everyone around here so i didnt believe me. Anyways we popped the hood and he told me the BOV was on backwards. I was like WTF are you serious becuase i had just brought this from the dealership on tuesday used with 16k miles on it. So now my question is what does a BOV on backwards sound. Should i wait till monday to take it back to get fixed or should i do it myself?

I don't know what it sounds like, but if it's on backwards, then the port that goes straight down from the housing will be sticking into the intake pipe, and the side port will be connected to the hose routing to the upper IC pipe. Take a pic, and we will be able to tell you easily...

I had this happen to me - bought the car used with 9k on it, and the BOV was backwards. It makes kind of a honking noise when you shift. I was worried about the BOV having failed as well, so I bought the JDM DV, made sure to put it on correctly, and have been very happy ever since. There is a thread on this that I started that you can take a look at.

Could you please search before you type stupid stuff? There are like 5,325,893 threads on the stock compressor bypass valve being installed backwards.

Thanks, now I need Tylenol.

hopefully this helps you. also search under my username and you find 2 threads with pictures on how it really should be...i had the same issue 2 weeks ago

anyway, your BOV is on backwards if the top hat of the BOV is pointing up towards the hood instead of sideways.

the valve orenetation does not matter as long as it is recirculating. it works the same way. i actually run my forge diverter valve this way and it sounds great. all turbo cars run this differently.stock on the vw 1.8t's they all run it this way. so it doesnt matter because the air is still blowing back into ur intake pipe.

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
Yep, that is incorrectly installed. I know that some have gone that with it. But I dont recommend it. BOV's and DV's are engineered to work a certain way. When you go against the design of the part then it doesnt function as well. They (not pointing any fingers here) think the sound is cool, and dont realize that they are surging/damaging the turbo. Yes, many may yell at me for that and many have written on this, but thats my 2c.

That is not true. There is only one orientation that is proper.

its not like the flow changes or anything. the vacume pressure just opens the valve to let the access pressure into the intake. its the same either way
