Unbiased opinions on selling my Evo
Thanks for the imput. It is hard not to drag race, as it is the only type of racing you can do on the street everyday.
You guys agree that it is pointless to build an evo for the 1/4 mile, as that is not its intended use. How fast can they get before they will tear the drivetrain apart?
Also, what do you think I could realistically get for my car. It is an 03 Evo, with all the options except the stereo and 10K miles. Car is less than 1 year old, although it is an 03
BTW, AMS would be doing all the work. I planned on getting stage 1 done next month, but i fear that it wouldn't even put me into the high 12s (although they say it will).

Drag racing is not as exciting for me compared to auto X or road track. Drag racing is in my opinon the worst for cars. All my drivetrain feels like crap after 60 launches in anything. To get a good time you must powershift and that is very hard on the drivetrain with the lauch. I personally find same launch and powershift= consistent runs for braket racing. This is another reason to stay away from turbo cars if you want to be compeditive.
Unless your talking about stock clutch and non drag radials
Slip slide and clutch is cheaper than drivetrain.

I don't like turbo cars for drag "bracket" racing because it is inconsistent with the weather. Sometimes the weather goes from 55 in the morning to 88 in the afternoon. Once you are dialed in you may break out and loose the race. Turbo cars are fast but not consistent for racing from temp change and that's all i'm saying.
I'm uncertain if you guys are "test and tune" race for money or bracket racing. Bracket racing is more a test on how you as a driver compare to others .
The 1/4 times you mentioned tells me that you would like to see how fast your car is and not racing to see who is the better driver

If you think an Evo is expensive to drag, then a VR-4 is going to blow you away. Think of it as an exotic car. they can be had for cheap, but keeping one running right and beating on it by dragging with it is worse.
If you want to stick with Mitsubishi then a 1G AWD is the best for dragging. And no just because they are old does not mean parts are hard to find. The cars are cheap and plentiful, but again, you will break stuff chasing after timeslips.
About the cheapest way I can think of to go fast in a straight line is a Fox body mustang with a 9 inch rear.

I'm happy just to cruise my Evo around and do some spirited
driving occasionly.
We have alot of nice twisty mountain roads around here.
I would keep the Evo VIII or sell it and buy the Evo IX.
