keep the stock filter if your lightly modifying!!!

About a month after purchasing my EVO I installed an RMR open cone intake. Shortly after I installed an HKS cat-back. Because of the lack of ca$h I never really intended to go crazy with further mods. I considered to flash the ECU but I've read some horror stories and I was afraid of not being able to pass smog (I live in CA).

For about the last 8months now I've had the damn P0300 code pop up at least 6 or 8 times. I had the dealer reflash my ecu twice to correct the P0300 and of course after about 500-1000 miles the damn code would pop up again!

Finally I decided to reinstall the stock airbox and had the ECU reflashed by the dealer for the third time. What a DIFFERENCE! The throttle felt more crisp and responsive and I definately felt more torque of the bottom and midrange (according to the butt dyno). P0300 codes are a thing of the past now, I have about 1500miles more on the odometer since the reinstallation and no codes yet.

If you are planning on using an open cone type of intake I would highly reccomend tuning the vehicle via SAFC or Flash, otherwise be prepared for some headaches. It took me 2 years to realize this!

sorry buddy, but a lot of people couldve and probably shouldve told u that. this car isnt very happy with just an intake or any mods for that matter without some sort of tuning. ie flash, s-afc, etc.

Yeah, I know for a fact that when you put on the Hks rs Intake you need a flash.
