MR stock BOV

I have a 2003 model evo and I get boost leak at high rpm even with an EBC. I might be able to get my hands on a stock MR bov for cheap. Would that hold the boost or do the MR have the same problem with boost leak at high rpm. I just want to hold 20 psi to redline. Thanks.

MRs have the same plastic piece of crap BOV. You would have to get the JDM MR DV for it to be an upgrade. If you get that one, it will hold boost, but no BOV will allow your turbo to hold 20psi to redline (7600 rpm), because the turbo ITSELF can't hold boost that high for that long without being turned up very high. You will see a natural taper above 6500rpm, because of the size of the turbo...not because your BOV leaks.

Warrtalon,
You really don't have a stock ECU if you have a piggyback. I made more torque with no tune. You may want to switch to a ECU flash as you will regain more torqu that way.

Thanks for all the info guys. I hadn't seen the bov from the MR. It was sort of friend of a friend type of thing. Thanks for the info about the turbo too Warrtalon. Sets my mind at ease about my ebc then still holding boost well.

It's still considered the stock ECU for sure, because I haven't touched it at all. A piggyback just modifies an incoming signal to the ECU. I'm not trying to say I'm not untuned, but I definitely have a stock ECU.

I'm not concerned with you making more peak torque...that is not an issue and is definitely not a reason to get a flash. An untuned 03 Evo with TBE/intake/boost with no tune had more peak torque than I did, too, but I had 30 more peak whp and a much smoother hp/tq curve throughout the entire power band, whereas his was rough with a stark dropoff above 6k rpms where the factory AFRs went pig rich. I tune myself on a daily basis depending on octane, temp, humidity, and boost levels with different settings for daily driving, auto-x, and drag. A flash doesn't provide me that, nor can I remove a flash when going to the dealership. For me, the S-AFC on top of a flash would be best, but I don't want my ECU touched.
