a friend of my's got the lancer OZ, he said it's cheap to get an engine swap and all that evo 7 goodies (besides the awd, and the ayc) and still be cheaper than 30K. I was like really? well, in fact I really don't know...maybe you guys can come in on the issue.

I have a friend who ownes a 2000 Eclipse GT. He spoke to Mike W at RRE about doing an engine/tranny swap with an EVO engine/tranny. I don't remember what it was going to cost, but it wasn't going to be cheap (I'm assuming anywhere between $7k-$10k--don't quote me on that).

From: houston tx,
ummm, keep in mind that an evo without the goodies is an eclipse. It would be cheaper for him to sell his lancer and buy a GST if he doesn't care about AWD, AYC, or ACD. Swapping an evo engine and drivetrain into the Lancer is prolly gonna cost 7-10 k (rough estimate, don't hold it against me if I'm wrong) for materials and work, and thats probably low. Thats 15k for the car, 7k for the work, thats 22k bux! you could have a really amazing 1st or 2nd gen eclipse turbo for 22 grand.

True. We bought my fiancee a '97 GS-T (leather, sunroof, etc. etc.) last year for $10,500. That has been a fun car to mod so far. She absolutely loves it! Of course, it is FWD.

From: houston tx,
a lancer with an Evo swap and no AWD would be front wheel drive too.

First you must make sure that the EVO's engine will even fit in a u.s. spec lancer if you have seen an EVO VII then you know that the u.s. lancer is alot smaller in the engine bay, i have seen pictures of a 1998 4-door mirage that a guy had and he fit a EVO engine in it but it barely fit it was like an inch of room left inbetween the front bumper but the u.s. lancers engine bay is bigger than that. but he also had to get all new engine mounts and everything so good luck if you do decide to do this project.... I think it cost him 4k for his engine, ecu, and tranny then it cost him around 5k-6k in labor.

7K sounds about right...that's what he told me at least. he said he knew some one who did it...but for me I still won't go for it, better to start with an Evo7

You could also just look for a GSX. 4g63 and AWD. The 97's through 99's look the best IMHO.
