Was out driving today and noticed that my boost guage was acting funny. I have an Autometer guage and have had it for about a year and a half now. I noticed that when I was idling, it would sometimes be at 0psi/vac when it is normally around 15psi of vacuum. Then it would dip randomly to 25psi of vacuum. The car didn't feel any different, but I was afraid to boost it more than 5psi really. Wasn't sure if it was the boost controller, or the boost guage, or something even worse.

I am going to go look under the hood in a few, but it's over 100* here and need a little A/C before going to pop the hood of a hot engine in 100* heat.

y'all just think the guage is dying?


EDIT: just went out and looked, and the guage still looks like it's hooked up the same. (the nylon line didn't move) And the MBC is still hooked up the same.

 

i have an autometer ultra-lite and i had to replace mine when it was about a year old. it just started giving false readings one day. autometer isn't exactly the best made gage.

 

check if you have a kink in the boost line somewhere.

 

Not to be an *** but Vacuum is measure by in. of HG (mercury) not PSI. Just wanted to let you know.

Also, try rigging that vinyl line crap to a decent vacuum line. that's what I did, I only have about 3 inches of the vinyl line and the rest is flexible tubing. works a lot better IMO.

 

yeah, i just forgot what it was measured in. Brain fart.

It has worked flawlessly for 18mos. I'm just saying today it didn't work. I went out tonight and it was working like normal, so I don't know if it was a one-time thing, or it's just trying not to die. The nylon line is hooked to a good vacuum source.
