De-Importtuningising the Evo: the clear rear lights
De-Importtuningising the Evo: the clear rear lights
I plan on getting the Evo in a few months. I can live with the some of the sacrifices of interior quality/features for the trade off in performance, but I'm not too fond of the 'import tuning' style clear rear lights. Basically, I will want to try and de-importtuningnise the Evo to make it blend into the crowd a little easier. At over 30 years old, I don't need to stand out and imply "look at me" anymore with loud 4" mufflers, clear tail lights and that sort of thing.
Does anyone know, if these are the same as a regular lancer lights and if they can be directly swapped out for regular looking red tailights like the rest of the boring normal lights found on 99.9% of the cars out there? Do the lancers in other countries have clear lights or do they have the red ones? Maybe someone will want to swap with me when I get my Evo.

Would the direct bolt-on from the Evo VII include plug & play with the wiring (socket/bulb connectors) too, or will I need to mess around with the connectors and such?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Yes, Evo VII lights will fit, like others have said.
You might blend into the crowd with "boring normal lights", but at the rate OEMs are putting clear tails on cars and trucks now, you might be in the minority in a short time!
I don't want to attract too much attention in the Evo either, but I don't mind the look of the Evo VIII's taillights, especially on the silver or white car, and the CF wing will still draw eyes anyway.
I mostly lurk on this site, but I had to speak up. I'm right there with you on the rear lights. I would do whatever necessary to swap those out. Go with your gut reaction on this one. Don't give in and grudgingly accept them over time. You know deep down what they look like.
Sorry if I sound **** or whatever, but I love my Lancer, and the Lancer in general, and it really bothers me they stuck the new Evo with those lights. I mean, you can get them for a Cadillac for God's sake. That should be enough right there to convince you...
Whew. Ok, rant over.

Funny, the REAL market is taking over. I've said putting those tailights in was a bad move, cause the last thing a person that can actually buy the car wants is to have it look ricey. I'm gonna wait to see if they can actually change them to the EVO 7 lights before I even buy mine....(well, and let you rabid doods spend all your cash, too)..
I wonder who those lights actually appeal to?
Apparently thinks that the PS/2 people are the ones that are going to buy the car. I think it is going to be the around 30 year olds that are rabid race/car fans. The video game guys don't have the cash...

Motor trend stated that the Evo shares the trunk lid with the regular Lancer, I'm surprised the lights couldn't be swapped. It's interesting how market forces may change the future design of this car. At roughly $30K, I would have thought they'd design it for guys in their 30's or 40's. Instead, they made it way to "ricey" . I'm in my 40's and would love to get this kind of bang for the buck, but I just can't drive around in something that looks like it came from "High Rev Tuners"!

Give it some time and aftermarket parts will begin popping up everywhere!

The lights don't sit on the trunklid. I originally thought the regular Lancer lights would fit too. But if you put the pics of a US Evo next to a Lancer, you will see the shape differences on the leading edge of the assembly. The assemblies on the Evo are cut at a steeper angle (almost vertical) so that they do not run into the flared wheel wells. The regular lancer assembly is much more "pointy" on the leading edge.
