Got pulled over...good cop experience

I read alot on EvoM about police officers profiling Evo drivers and being harsh with tickets so I thought I'd relay this story.

I was traveling down a rural highway tonite, cruising at about 50 when i passed a cop car. He immediately flipped his lights and turned around. Not wanted to throw up the flaming flag of guilt i didnt pull over right away, but waited until he was fully facing my direction. As we pulled over and stopped i shut off the car, rolled down the windows, and turned on my interior lights. He told me i was doing a bit over 50 when i passed him. When he asked for my license i explained that it was in my wallet in my back pocket and asked for permission to get it. He asked about an address discrepancy and I explained that i was a student, allowed to have an ID from NJ but have a car registered in MA.

He went back to the car and returned about 5 minutes later. He apologized for the delay and explained that I was going a little fast and that i should have a safe night. He also asked what i was doing for school and chatted with me shortly before sending me off.

I didnt feel wronged for getting pulled over, i understand that he was probably checking to make sure i wasnt drunk or a criminal and i did give him cause to pull me over. but since i wasnt being wreckless or hurting anyone he was lenient. No warning or anything. Definately a professional guy.

If i could say anything to you potential pull-over-ees i would suggest making the officer feel safe, being polite, and friendly. This is the third time that ive been let go with no official warning on speeding infractions. (52 in a 25, 65 in a 45 and now 50 in a 40)

The other day I got a warinig for going 39 in a 25. She marked it down to 36 and told me to be safe. It was pretty cool because that same cop has hit up my dad, and grandma with tickets and has given my mom a warning. I saw that cop and thought I was done for, but I got the good end of that deal thank God.

I think it is more accurate to say that few people WRITE about good experiences with cops.

Most people come on here and admit that they were doing something wrong, then get all bent because they get pulled, then act like a butt, and get a ticket, and then whine to the rest of the board.

I have been pulled numerous times in my 30 years of driving. I have gotten exactly two tickets- 65 in a 55 (1984) and expired tag (2003). The other times they have just checked out who I am and where I am going or where I came from, or I did something that attracted attention and they wanted to tell me not to do it anymore. I have NEVER had a bad experience with a policeman that I didn't deserve.

Before you write back to this guy to complain about your lot, think for a minute; do I deserve some of the responsibility for what happened to me? Did I act suspicious, or defiant, or angry, or in some way cause the officer to react?

By reading this board, you'd think that every officer was out to write unnecessary tickets, or pull (insert your racial profile here) for Driving While (insert your color/race/creed here), or crack down on cars with wings, etc.

Sheesh!

Good story with the cops...I can agree, not all cops are jackasses....But i'll give you a quick jackass cop story. Got pulled over in the Potomac in Maryland in my boat and given a 85 dollar ticket for going above 6mph....speedometer in my boat doesnt read below 10mph and my speed wasnt registered so i was only mabye going 8 or 9mph...So there ya go, 3mph over the limit and 85 bux....******* rookie woman water donuts.

It's called Luck. My friend who's dad is a Detective 3 for lapd got pulled over on the freeway for going 75 in a 65 zone. His dad business card was taped to the back of the license with the "in case of emergency" written on it. My friend was very polite, took his keys out of the ignition put them on top of the dash, turned on the interior light, left both hands on the wheel, etc. The cop looked at the driver's license, turned it over, saw the card and just chuckled. My friend didn't have a job so his dad had to pay for the ticket. When they went to court, my friends dad got in the other cops face and said "Hey a$$hole, have heard of professional courtesy? You better hope I don't see you ever in LA"

Another friend of mine is also LAPD and he says he knows other officers who've gotten tickets by CHP.

So the morale of the story is, if you don't get a ticket, take the fine you think you should have paid and go buy a lottery ticket cause it's your lucky day!

Yeah thats cool. Honestly, out of the numerous times I have been pulled over in my life ,I will say that as many times as I have gotten tickets I have also had similar experiences as yours just as many times.

thats one cool cop. my experience has been when getting pulled over out of state they are more likely to give you the ticket since its not like youre going to come back to that state to fight the ticket in court. ive had tickets in maine nj and pa with mass plates (non in the evo). you must have been real cool with him to get away with it.

Agreed. People typically only write about the bad experiences, but I try to treat law enforcement with respect and I think that it goes a long way, I have had as many good experiences as bad.

I would guess this was probably because you were in a "NO WAKE ZONE" and you were making a wake. Most of the time you WILL get a ticket for that as your wake can cause considerable damage, which you would be resposible for. Don't really think the cop was being a "Jackass", she was doing her job and probably considered you the Jackass.
