05 coolant hose recall

Just checked in with my mitsu dealer to see if my car was one of those which may have a leaky coolant hose. The service advisor was surprised to find I was correct, and not talking through my *** about the TSB/recall. Turns out I am the first one to request it at the dealership. They said I would have had a recall notice from in the near future, but why wait? I can bring in the car next week to have a new hose put on.

Most of you probably know about this already as it has been covered b4 in this form, but I thought I'd post it anyway, especially since we are getting alot of new 05 owners/members with the % finance (which I missed out on by buying my car one week b4 it started )

I just picked mine up on Monday...First thing I noticed when they brought it back after filling the tank up for me was that it smelled a bit like coolant under the car! I'll have to look into it I guess. I haven't noticed anything as of late though so it may have been some sort of "coating" which has burned off a bit with heat cycling. I've never seen any coolant on the ground. What exactly is the problem with the hose? Not secured correctly? Rubbing?

I was told from a friend that works for mitsubishi that under high pressure and high temperature the line balloons and explodes

Sound like this type of failure is just due to a manufacturing defect.

This is a recall on a lot of '05 Evos (not sure of the date) where the coolant hose can pop or dislodge leading to a fire. Most dealers have not heard of it yet, but when you ask them about it, give them your VIN and ask them about the TSB/Recall, it should be in their computer. Anybody who doesn't ask their dealer about it, who is at risk, should hear about it from in the next few weeks. But why wait? It is already in the computer. If you are affected your dealer will have the info whether they are aware of the recall or not.

Here is all the orig info

Here ya go... I can see why it COULD cause a fire..
I;ve noticed the texture of the hose is bumpy kinda like its expanded quit a bit.
My car is safe providing the dates are correct.
mines a sept 04 car, so it seems like i got a good hose

dealership brought this to my attention when i went for an oil change. from what i was told, its only on 05 production 05's, and they are prone to bursting. they were done with the fix and oil change in like 30 min. they also acknowleged the coolant smell, and said that it would go away in a few days, its been 2 and i no longer smell it.

the smell would be the fault of the mechanic that was being clumsy, but it should evaporate after a couple of heat cycles. . .my guy didn't apparently spill any, or if he did, he must've wiped up nicely, because I didn't have any smell afterwards. . . .it might be that you're coolant hadn't totally drained back in when they decided to yank the hose as well, causing the spill. . . .
bubbly hoses rule. . .
