Buy and 05 or wait for 06?

Hi,

I'd like to sell my 04 STi and get an EVO. (not MR version)

I'm wondering if I should get an VIII or wait until the IX comes out? I'm sure I could get an VIII under invoice but I'm not sure what kind of deal I could get on the IX.

Lets say I'd have to pay sicker for the IX, would the extra money be worth it over the VIII, is it really that different in performance?

Any info would be appreciated.

Why am I selling my STi? I've had 2 subaru's now and I'm looking for somthing different.

Thanks,

Brian

I am buying an Evo 8 in a few minute if they can give me the deal that I want. The reason why I do not want to wait for the 9 is because of the mark-up thing for the cali dealers. In addition, we all can get 8 under invoice with no problem for sure (if your skill is good) since they want to get rid of them now.

The different between 8 and 9 is not noticable except the interior is nicer, but you will be paying couple thousands more. If you can get 0% with your credit history, you can save even more.

Depend if you want to get the new hot 9 or just want to save couple thousands for something that is already "hot".

i've been on and off contemplating th esame decision.
unfortunately, i have too much money into my sti, and don't relish the thought of parting it out.

personally, i would go with the 05 evo8 for the invoice pricing and 0% financing.
the 9 will be the first to use mivec, and since the x will be out the year after, i would think that from a modding perspective the 8 would be an easier route at first.
then in 2-3 years, scoop up the x.

based on what i've got in my sti, i'm waiting until both companies release their new models.
ii hope that subarus next sti is a hatchback, or that mitsu makes a strong financial recovery.
actually... both.

Actually, i think i saw the new sti and it is ugly comparing to the evo. However, I am not sure if the new STi is one of those cars that require time to get adapted to look better over time.

They are having good deals on the '05 Evo's right now, or wait late September for the Evo IX. Goodluck!

Wait until the IX is in the show room. Take it for a ride. If they still have VIII left they'll really deal. If you have to pay $5k more it's probably worth it based on model year depreciation. You'll also get a one-year only model - fewer cars - better resale.
I"m thinking of trading my GSR for a IX to get the better low-end torque.
Only problem is if your trade-in also drops in price while you wait.

I saw something the other day that showed the 9 handled better and was quicker than the MR. The only concern I would have is in the power adder department. Variable valve timing can be a pain to increase power with, at least on our Prelude it is.

Thanks for all the advice,

I got a quote on the 05 about 4 months ago for $90 under invoice. I called back last week and they still have 4 05's in stock. Perhaps they would cut me an even better deal since its close to the IX release.

So, people have mentioned there may be some drawbacks in moding the 06 vs 05? Can anyone elaborate?

Also, I read that the IX will get 10hp more? Or is this just due to the new method for rating HP? (SAE method).

Thanks,

Brian

just wait for the ix and you won't regret it. I know couple folks in Japan who had test driven the IX. They said it runs and handles well than the VIII.

I was in the same boat. However, it came down to the money. I got a killer deal on the VIII so I bought one. If you have the extra cash, wait for the IX. However, if you want a bargain, get the VIII.
