if you have any current/future dreams of taking a car to a road course / auto-X then OMG choose the Evo. Im telling you right now, youll come back from your first event wondering how you ever considered a different car. Yes the evo is just THAT MUCH FUN.

Heh well there is more to consider than just a few fun days a year. I have to live with the stiff suspension, quick steering, and bare-bones econo-interior. I looked at the RS at a dealer near me and to move the mirrors you have to go OUTSIDE the car and move them with your hand. How sad.... and no ABS for daily driving may not be too safe.

Than again... it has 4 doors, an actual trunk, and AWD which the GTO does not...

Also money IS a factor. Which will be more expensive to own?

I'm dealing with the same choice right now. I've been to test drive the 05 gto and loved it. aside from all the reasons your mentioning. I've been interersted in the EVO ever since it came out.

I really think the 0% financing and 2005 deals may push me the way of the EVO...who knows. Headed for my first test drive tomorrow.

Sure will, especially since I may be driving one home tomorrow. I've been doing the math all night. Even rolling negative equity into the Evo, I still save more in finance charges than I would going in with no trade and regular 6.25% financing.

And, it just so happens the place I'm going tomorrow has a Silver MR, 3 black/1 blue/1 red/1 yellow 8's with and without the SSL, and they have 1 RS, so I'll have my choice of all options from dealer stock...except for white, which I reallly really like. But, my wife has a white 05 G35, so I should pick a different color anyway.

In your position, you have to think about what would be more exciting. Do you want to hear the turbo sucking air and screaming, or hear a beefy v8. The Evo will handle far better than the GTO, but the GTO has alot more raw power. Personally, I love the sound of the turbo with the open element intake, it sounds like nothing I've ever heard before. But, the GTO probably sounds like a monster with exhaust. The aftermarket for both cars is probably good, but it will cost more to build up the evo. Just my .02

hypnoz- go with the GTO, as for the turbo spool, there is a company making remote mount turbo's for the GTO. It is made by Squires Turbo, or something... google it. However, the GTO is not as much fun in my opinion. I felt the same way as you, bland overall, only good in a straight line. If it was my choice, I'd go for a Evo GSR, but that is me...

I only feel the exterior is bland. Everything else is great. Awesome V8 sound, extremely nice interior ( better than G35 IMO), and i really like the red leather. That said, i like the SSL too, but cant afford anything beyond an RS. And i don't trust used turbo cars.

Something about driving such a raw sports car daily just gets me excited though. I also tend to think to get the most out of this car performance-wise you have to launch hard and/or chew through brake pads. Not sure if not having abs/power windows/locks/mirrors will **** me off or not.

The other hand I'm considering a used (below 7k miles) GTO. Awesome power, unbelievable low-end torque (great for normal driving), awesome 6.0L V8, traditional V8 sound, VERY good interior (not made by pontiac thank god), Strong tranny, RWD, extremely comfy seats, great gauges, way better turn radius, Highway beast (seen traps as high as 108-109 stock). On the other side we have a pretty bland exterior, sloppy steering, hefty weight, and weak handling. Something about having a much more luxurious daily driver and being able to do massive burn outs then go out and destroy the G35/350z next to me is appealing. Then again, the styling is so bland....and i know it doesn't even have close to the handling capabilities of the EVO... and in the rain? Ack.

I live in Arizona. I rains 20 days a year here. I drive 20k miles a year. If a car cant do sub 5 second 0-60 it isnt fast enough. I drive city 50% highway 50%. I am a sucker for low end torque and V8 sound, though i also LOVE boosting and the turbo sound of pushing air. I can imagine myself loving the great handling of the evo, and blistering launches, but also love the daily driving low-end torque of the GTO and the awesome torque curve and great top-end. RWD burnouts would be fun, along with AWD launching. I can see how i would enjoy driving something a little more comfy would be less tiring then driving a stiff suspension evo, that along with quick steering may annoy me on the highway. The GTO sway and bland styling will annoy me daily as well. I'm so split on these 2 opposites its pissing me off.

I refuse to get a used evo8 (dont trust used turbo cars), and can't afford a new GTO or GSR (thats why i put RS). Anyone else ever been so stuck between seemingly completely different options?
put the got's powerplant in an evo, and then twin turbo it with a Rhys Millen twin turbo kit?! best of both worlds?

mitsubishi has 0% intrest... on all models right now.

0% for 60 months would be a lot cheaper in the long run if you can swing the payment.

I'm going to head over there in about 2 hours or so, I'll let you know the details!
