Gauges on a Radio Delete panel?
Gauges on a Radio Delete panel?
I'm getting ready to install my gauges (52mm VDO EGT, Boost, and Oil Pressure) and am looking at all of my options.
The plan is to move the radio down to the lower cubby with the cheap kit (aftermarket Sony Xplod, already have brackets).
Right now I'm deciding on the 42 aluminum panel or simply taking a Radio Delete panel and drilling the holes myself.
I was wondering if anyone has pics of a gauge install in using the delete panel?
I like the recessed design of the 42draft panel, but I'm not sure if I like it for $55 more.
Thanks,
AC

Followup:
I found two part numbers for the radio delete panel:
MR117067 -- the eclipse radio delete panel
and
MR250558 -- the one listed for the RS in the big part numbers thread
Both come up as Panel+Radio Blind on mitsubishiparts.net, however, the Eclipse one is $2.74 and the Evo one is $3.62.
Does anyone here that may work at a dealership have any more information on these parts? I may just order them both and report back. I think I can afford it

Thanks for the help. I ordered both part numbers for a total of $5. I'll see which one I like better. I may end up with the 42 draft panel anyway, but if I don't mind the delete panel, I saved $60.

I will confirm all this tonight, but here's what I've found so far.
they are both identical from the front. Both have clips along the top and bottom to secure it in place.
One has almost nothing on the back (just some support ribs).
The other has some tubes and nubbins and stuff off the back (not sure of what purpose it might serve).
I will confirm which is which tonight and post. If I can find my camera I may even post some pics.

To answer some questions:
Yes, either plate will work in the lower din or the factory location. They are exactly the same size.
Part Number: MR250558:
Has some tubes in the back. some sort of structural thing, I guess. Can't really discern their function. It's made of a softer, deformable ABS plastic. It feels more pliable, but less solid. It has a slightly smaller "overhang" over whatever opening you put it in (about 1mm less). It also has what looks like a handwritten MR250556 stamped on the back in addition to the part number above (maybe a replacement for a different part number?). The surface has some texture to it, but I wouldn't call it rough.
Part Number MR117067:
Also made of ABS plastic, but is more solid and durable. More rigid with less give. Harder to twist. The back only has some slight structural ribs. Other than that it's clean. The finish is much smoother and it has a bigger overhang than the other. The clips feel more solid and the fit and finish are better.
From the front, these look almost identical. Some horizontal indentation lines across the front.
Either would work, but the MR117067 seems like it would be a better mounting surface, hold better in the opening, and has a better finish look, but might show a scratch or screw-up worse than the other part number.
Sorry, no pics yet. I will most likely use this part and save the softer one as an emergency backup in case I mis-drill.
Hope this helps!
