Newb, Who is going to need lots of help.

Hey All! Looks like you guys have a great forum here and I cant wait to get some posting in. But ....(there is always a but) I am a real big muscle car guy, I own a 2003 Mach 1 Mustang. and I have never realy been intreasted in 4cyl. ( dont take that in ofense) but I realy do like the looks and performance of the Evo. And since im moving to hawaii in about 2 months I am forced to sell my car becuase the gas is going to be to much over there. So I am looking into buying and evo8 and i dont know much about evo's realy. So basicly im just asking what should i look for when buying an evo. Thanks for your help

New or used? keep an eye on the transfer case/clutch/tires. if used. Take one out for a test drive before you "don" your Hula-skirt! You'll love it. Handling is great to get away from Lava, the turbo will suck the coconuts off the trees!, and you have 4 doors, so you can get in the back for a "lei"!. You lucky SOB, have fun in Hawaii! What is more specific questions about the car you need to know?

pretty much the same stuff you would look for with any other car... if your buying used try to buy from an older person also... otherwise just pay close attention to bearing shaft play in the turbo, and blue smoke out the exhaust, that being a bad turbo, also you dont want a notchy trans either.. it should shift smooth.. if you buy a modded one, get to know the person, the parts, the mechanic, if any, or parts dealer... there are plenty of modded ones, that are built well, just keep your eyes open.. now if your buying a new one i just wasted my breath, cause you didnt specify new or used..

If you buy an evo not to stay in boost the whole time, I think you might be buying the wrong car!

Your gas mileage will not improve with the Evo, and your maintenance costs may increase. Not to mention buying an Evo in Hawaii is going to cost you big bucks...

Then you may as well buy a Civic and save yourself thousands.

If you drive an EVO like it was meant to be driven then you will get no better gas mileage than you did in the Mustang, probably worse.

you can but if u buy a civic u well never have the handling of the evo, and the ability to downshift so u are in boost if u need pass anybody. Also i dont see any stock civics running 13's. Now the evo can get u good gas mileage, and still have the ability to rape most cars

True, you don't have to floor it at every single stop light. When you don't need to go fast, don't go fast.

on normal driving keep it about 2500 to 3000 rpms, any higher then that your hitting boost which sucks gas like a ****. and when you buy your evo like everyone said make sure you didnt buy from a teen or younger person. they would usually dogg the hell outa the car. if your buying brand new no worries then.

Ive gotten 23mpg with 1/2 my miles being city, the other 1/2 being freeway. I consider that pretty good, for a car that can haul booty when it needs to

Things to check on, clutch/tranny and a solid motor.. standard stuff really

HEy sorry i did specify on new or used. im looking at both..I think i may go new. I found a blue 05 evo 8 with leather interior for 27k so i may have to go take that deal up. Also in the mustang im getting about 10 mpg in the city so its bad plus the mustang is no good on gas on long trips either. I test drove an evo yesterday and i liked how it drove. i think i would have to relern how to drive tho. its a big difrence driving an awd car compared to a rwd car. I also wanted to know is there anything that I should look out for such as with the mustang 32v motors there is a thing called the "tick" wich is basicly a head problem that the factory didnt find out about until after the cars were sold but not all of them had the problem.

O and thanks guys for being so helpfull im def. a newb to imports so im trying my best not to ask stupid questions.

EVO vs STi, that is the ?

Hi All,

First post, have been reading for a while. I am trying to decide if an Evo is going to work best for me. I would like to hear from folks who have driven both the Evo and STi and how they compare/differ. I know there are a lot of this threads out there and have read them, however, I'm 40 years old and have family type size concerns for a car. I would like to test drive both, the 06 Sti's are out but not the Evo 9's. I have been thinking of an CTS-v, however not feeling good about the problems, rearend, wheelhop etc...not to mention the $.

Thanks,
PCW
