Question Differences in Evo IX vs VIII '05

Ok fella's,

I thought the engine and drivetrain on the '05 Evo VIII had pretty much the same as the IX, the only real diff was the variable valve timing. Same stuff -10.5 hotside turbo, same gearbox (as far as the five speed goes), electronically-controlled multi-plate center differential, and the front helical limited-slip differential('03 and '04 had open diff). But what I'm reading on a couple of these articles (which of course I'm sure want to bulid up the IX) is that the '03-'05 don't have any of this and the NEW IX has all these goodies now?? Someone clear this up for me please.

The one thing the articles are mentioning is the IX are going to have a revlimiter built in @5500 rpm's when the car is at a stand still. Does this mean you have a built-in studder box for launching? YAAAAAAHOOOO!! THat'll be nice on the drag track yeah?? IF, of course this is true.

From what I've picked up reading everything I can find, the IX has a reworked turbo setup, different gear ratios (5- and 6-speed boxes), the helical front LSD, MIVEC, and the standing start rev limiter (5k or 5.5k depending who wrote the article).

You do know that your 05 has a stand still rev limiter?

As you can see in any of about 1000 threads talking about 05s on this site, you will see that all 05s have ACD, FLSD, 10.5 hotside, and a built-in _5000rpm_ launch limiter that can be used as a stutterbox, but the rpm is too low. If it was 5500, it would be ok, but 5000 is too low, so I disconnect it at the drag strip.

Actually, I did not know the '05 had a standing rev limiter. Thanks.

However, I agree that it would be a little low @5k...to get some of my lower 1.7x 60' in my 2g I had to do somewhere around 5500rpm-6k launches (on a well treated track).

What is the revlimiter set to when moving?? By accident on a couple of ocassions I've gotten up to 8k (because the car still felt like it was pulling hard) and didn't hit it.

The rev limiter is set at 7600. You did not hit 8k, unless you have a flash. What you saw on the tach while accelerating is probably not very accurate.

Actually you can go beyond the rev if you are shifting into the wrong gear. I know a guy that hit 9000+ in his DSM shifting from 4th to 3rd

Thumbs up Evolution IX compared

I just got my new Evolution IX last week and I can confirm that pickup of the engine and handling are both greatly improved compared to the Evo VII I had previously. Its a greatly improved car - absolutely superb.

Evo IX Badge

The EVOLUTION IX badge on the trunk came like that.
Its just adhesive black plastic lettering but it looks great.
The car was shipped brand new from Japan to Trinidad.
