registering evo in canada?

Ok i've read all the threads on trying to register an evo in Canada and my question is if I try to register an evo as a lancer that i purchased in Canada will they actually check the VIN? And if they did only the model # is different and it would show up as a lancer evolution instead of just a lancer or lancer es. And since im not importing the vehicle into Canada it doesn't need to be inspected and i don't think the MTO (Ministry of Transportation of Ontario) would know that the evolution isn't admissble into Canada. Any help is greatly appreciated and if im wrong please correct me.
Thanx

It'd be damn risky, imagine what would happen if you get in an accident and they noticed that this thing is not a simple lancer. They're not stupid, once they open the hood and see that it's way different, they'll begin to ask questions and then bam, you're screwed. It's like those guys who bring skylines into the country registered as like 240sx's or things along those lines, sure it'll last for a while, but god help you if someone notices. It's not worth the risk, just get an STi or something along those lines.

Some guy in Windsor told me he was going to try to buy one in Michigan and drive around Windsor with a MI plate. I think he has a resident alien card or something similar. You might be able to get away with doing something similar.

According to a recent article in the Toronto star, the evo will be coming to oh canada in the near future, so I'd wait. They are fixing the part that failed the 8mph standard front collision test (mandatory in canada) but passed in the US (5 mph mandatory test). At least thats what the article says.
