keeping an evo stock?
keeping an evo stock?
I am graduating college this December, and assuming my job offer doesn't fall though, I will be buying a new evo. I am hoping there will be some '05s left but if not, I'll just wait for the IX.
I definitely want a brand new evo. God only knows how some people drive
cars like these. I'm also worried that if I buy used, and it has a problem, the dealer will refuse warranty work because of some aftermarket part that was installed by the previous owner. I just don't think it's worth the risk.
I also want to keep the car 100% stock, at least for a while. This will be my only car and if something goes wrong, I need to be sure it will be fixed.
Here are my questions...
Does anyone out there have 100% bone stock evos? I know there aren't many of you. But have you had any problems with your stock evos? And if so, what was your experience with the dealership like? Any problems with warranty coverage on totally stock evos? I did a search and read about the one dude being denied service because his MR had "aftermarket BBS wheels" lol.
Have any of you had problems with very lightly modded evos? By lightly modded I mean air filter and/or exhaust. Nothing electronic or internal. What was your dealership experience like?
do any of you evo drivers have kids? I have a young daughter who rides in a car seat. Is this not the kind of car you would put your child in? Obvioulsy not when autocrossing. But how about grocery getting?
I realize what the evo was built for. And I would be "getting on it" every now and then. I just wont be modding heavily(if at all) or racing. I went from a 98 cobra, to a 2003 ford taurus. I think the evo is a good balance of performance and 4 doors, lol.
Thanks for any input.

You won't want to keep it stock for long. The evo attracts TOO much attention. My car was stock because there wasn't a need for more and I was mainly interested in autoxing...then at about 2000 miles a honda accord beat me and I was pissed. Now im 350+ whp and climbing for more boost. I start shaking if I dont buy mods.

I've had my 04 for a year now and the only mod I have is a boost gauge. The dealership is still going to give you some crap, my seat cracked... and they are still in the process of fixing it...it's been 3 months. Just remember the car is great for what you want and it's even fast in stock trim. Mitsubishi is in the ****ter so they are trying to make their money on the service end, I think this is the problem with the warranty claims...to my knowledge subaru is a little better in this regard. I think you will be happy. On the other hand I'd be lying to you if I said I don't get on here and think about doing a Buschar or Vishnu stage 1 kit at least 3 times a week.
i've talked to a few people who've bought used evos and to answer your question, the dealer will in most cases cover your warranty. however you shouldnt take that to heart because every dealership is different and will be more strict or lenient to your vehicle's needs. i have heard a guy having bought a moderately modded evo (aem ems, catch can, fuel rail, atp 3071 etc good for at least 345whp) get it warranteed in writing by the dealer. buying a new evo would be the best option because hey, who wouldnt want a new car? but if money is an issue, try looking around different dealerships for "stock evos" and try to at least get an extended warranty on it. good luck!
