undertray fastener help
Thanks for the replies guys. I've broken down and ordered OEM parts from Mach V. Still would like to know what a 1/4x20 long spring clip is, and where to find one...
Last bump (from me), this time with a link to another fastener thread: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...tray+fasteners
Thanks again.

I just had the pleasure of removing the undertray 3 times in the last few weeks, let me give some tips here.
First off, a tool like this makes life a lot easier:

If you can get some prying force under the clip's outer ring, you will be able to unscrew the center a bit. You need only to back it out a few threads so you can get some plyers on it. Once you can get a good grip, you can literally just pull it out.
That all being said, I have no idea where to get replacements that aren't such a beotch. Sorry.

Stop by your local Autozone or Pepboys. They have an entire rack of various fasteners. I'm sure you can find one that'll fit. They're fairly inexpensive although I can't remember the exact prices.

I dont know about how important the undertray is on the Evo, but i have heard of other cars that will overheat with the undertray off. it makes air that comes in the grill go through the intercooler and the radiator.
to keep the fasteners from spinning you have to draw the screw out a little. pry with a thin screwdriver or your fingernails. (Between the collar and the screw). the threads will not engage untill the screw is pulled out alittle.
if you think about it, they make perfect sense

Nice tool, webguy330... And at a price of ~5 fasteners, it can't hurt to try it.
BTW, I did get the remaining fasteners out. First I threatened them with a drill. But was finally able to coax them out without Dewalt's help. Extremely light pressure with the phillips driver, then back them out just far enough to slip a thin swiss army blade in to start prying. Don't know what was different from the first try(s). Maybe renewed enthusiasm or maybe a mouse farted in my garage, changing the relative atmospheric pressure just enough to allow two of the threads to engage.
I'll be putting the undertray back on this weekend (too many possible benefits not to). And will have poppet nightmares leading up to the next time it has to come off.
Thanks everyone for the helpful hints and tips.

I bought of plastic clips that's much better than the screw on type at NAPA (much easier to remove)
You'll need 5 bags (7 in each bag) of Part Number 665-2388 (it's 6$ per bag) <-- these guys are a perfect fit.

and 665-3195 (just need 4 of them).

I would ask Robi, because there is no standard definition of a "spring clip" and many many manufacterers have things identified as "spring clips" in their catalogs that have nothing to do with each other. I think this is more of a generic term than anything. In my head I think I can see what he is trying to accomplish. If we can get a Home Depot SKU on that spring clip, it'll help everyone out.
Wow, bring back a 4 year old thread.... zombie walking.
FWIW, the 4 clips that hold the upper part of the bumper near the radiator are push-type (as shown above) but have 4 cutouts on the side for a screwdriver, and can be had for ~$1.70 each at a dealership. Just picked up about 45 the other day.
