(HELP) Dyno Questions

hi guys ..
ok to the point ... last thursday we dynoed my friends Evo 6 TME and for a reson it wasnt going smothe ...and am not talking about the car am talking about the whole thing .... first the RPM line didnt show ... and we had RPM spike on the dyno monitor .
So the first question here will be where do we connect the cable for the RPM reading ?
we connected it on many places but still we coudnt get it ?
AFR was a bit lean but in the end we increased the fule regulator out put a bit tell it was running 11.5 AFR.

the most important question is .... should we dyno the car on 3rd or 4th gear ...?? what i know is we should dyno on the gear wich is closest to 1:1 ratio and that would be 4th gear .
any way he got about 320 wp wich is kind of ok but we know it can do much more, I say 350 .

the dyno used was a awd dynojet .

I have a 2005 5speed MR and i dynoed it on 4th gear and i got 241WHP when the car was bone stock and no problem i had what so ever.

what i undurstod from him when he called me today is that all tuners are dynoing evos on 3rd and we should of done it on 3rd , when he went back home he was checking the dyno sheets of all big shots like Al fredman and the AMS evo and others and he said the top speed thy made on the dyno runn showed that thy where running 3rd gear where ower runn was way too fast because we where on 4th .

i personly think 4th is what we should dyno the car on .... but my friend could be correct .

what do u guys say .
thax for ur time

i think you're supposed to dyno in the gear closest to 1:1 ratio or whatever it is

I dyno'd my MR on a AWD DynoJet, and rpm pick up should be on the first spark plug wire. But then I have seen some cars have the spike and the rpm go up then down, on the monitor. What we did was play with the pick up placement, sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt.
