After searching and reading thru the threads, I cannot grasp whether or not this is ONLY necessary for exhausts with tips that do not extend beyond the bumper (like the stock one) or if it's a good idea for all exhausts regardless of clearance.

I'm thinking of getting one anyway, just want to know how high a priority it should be. Don't want to ruin my bumper.

 

I think people use it if they spit alot of smoke because it will leave a black mark on the bumper. This mainly happens due to tunning and whatnot, also it can heat up and melt the bumper if its really close. I've got the Buschur 3" TBE and it's very close to my bumper, i've had no soot issues or melting. Plus my car is black so it probally wouldn't even show the soot and you probally wouldn't even be able to tell there is an exhaust heat shield

 

Mine is silver, so the soot would show. I don't mind cleaning the soot off, just don't want any discoloring or melting.

 

I bought a heat shield because I thought they looked cool. Carbon Fiber. It's not necessary with my HKS 30th anniversary catback as long as I have a high flow cat on. My friend has the HKS hi power catless and his bumper turns black.

 

I put mine on as a preventative measure to keep the bumper from melting and discoloring. Plus the soot was becoming a pita to clean and just looked fugly. With the heat shield on the soot isnt even noticeable anymore.

oh yeah - its cheap ($100 or so), easy to install, and doesnt look to bad either

 

If my bumper melts, I'll have an excuse to buy Evo9 bumper

 

I have a white evo, with turbo XS tb. Since it's angled a section of my bumper is melting, I'll try to post pics soon. I already have the the carbon fiber heat shield but have'nt installed it yet.

 

i'm running a catless turboback with the Espelir Catback section. This exhaust was originally made for the evo 7, and doesn't clear my bumper. i was having severe soot issues, but no melting (up until i put on my heat shield). i got the carbign craft heat shield and it looks amazing and does the trick, it also has a lip on it so it keeps a lot of the soot off of the heat shield itself. It's also made of dry-carbon, so its sure to hold up and not melt.check it out

 

I like that, but it's $50 more expensive than LancerShop. Is it $50 better?

 

The heat shield from Carbign Craft (8 bolts)look like the secure better then the Lancer Shop(2 bolts) one.

 

But I wonder, does that make 8 holes as opposed to 2 holes?

And, does it really make it more secure? I haven't heard the secure fit being an issue with anyone that has either one.

 

If you worried about making too many holes I would just go with the Lancer shop one and get some really good double sided tape.

 

I don't like the bolts showing. I think that I'll just use some extra strong double side tape and the two bolts on the bottom

 

I'll have my Lancershop heat shield on Wednesday, so I'll post my thoughts.

 

US 9 bumper or the JDM bumper. The US evo 9 bumper is the same as the US 8.
