Well... we dyno'd it :)
Hi guys,
Two days after delivery of our red EVO VIII, we managed to get 600 miles on the clock. Once that happened, there was only one thing left... some dyno baselines and initial tuning/testing
The Bad new:
The baseline dyno numbers are a bit lower than I would expect from a car claiming 270+hp but right in line with initial driving impressions. I'd rather not say what the baseline dyno numbers are until we test some more stock EVOs later this week. I don't want to jump to any conclusions yet with only one sample point. There is some pretty big car-to-car variance with WRXs so I expect the same applies with EVOs. Especially given the 91 octane we get here in CA.
The good news:
We did manage to extract another 30 wheel hp through some careful tweaking here and there. And we didn't even touch boost levels which remained completely stock. Still a LOT more work to go but it looks very promising so far. More info to come soon. The website should be updated by tomorrow night with more pics and info
Cheers,
shiv

Hey shiv,
Would you please dyno the evo 8 with sunoco 94 and see if we get more hp from the ecu? I'm curious if our USDM evo 8 have the same timing pull problems you've encountered with the 7
Were you talking about 30hp gain or 30 peak horsepower gain?

Don't tease us, we are all adults here. Let us know what you got on this one. Most tuners know that dyno numbers very 5-10% based on fuel, car, dyno and atmosphere. I would guess that if you dyno'd 10 cars you'd get from 250-290.
This coming from someone that know motorcycles and old, big V-8 muscle cars!

I am thinking super afc and a boost gague with a catless exhuast and it whould be ready to put those WRX's out of thier misery !

Anyway - so long as we are all making more HP soon - who cares how low we start !
Heh

I'd rather wait a week and see 5 comparable dynos (same dyno/operator) than see one bad apple and jump to conclusions on it.

Also, for some reason, it's harder to forget bad information than it is to remember good information.Cheers,

PS. The 30 wheel hp gains was the difference in peak hp. The difference, however, at just under 6000rpm was nearly 50 wheel hp
Still need more data points before we can claim that such gains are reproducible.
I am fairly certain that the ECUTEK can be used on the EVO as well as the WRX. Like %95 positive.
$6,700 for the software, and 11 lisences. Not such a bad deal if you can tune WRX's and Evolutions. I may buy it...
