Question about the evo's turning circle

i heard the evo's turning circle is real bad, i wanted to know if this is true or not, does it effect your daily driving in any way, does it have any impact on your track performance, and have any of you modded your turning circle and what results came about from that modification? (im not talking about the rack, which is 2.0, im talking about the turning circle of the car) what i dont get is, if the turning circle isnt sharp enough like many claim, how does the evo still handle so well on the track?

Really? hmmmm I am completely satisfied how the evo turns and handle, you just have to know when to shift the wieght of the car then you will be fine

i dont really track my car, its my daily driver. The only times i realy notice it is when i'm trying to make a u-turn, or do a 3pt turn in tight spaces.

Otherwise it's not really a problem..

It only effects U turns or parking, but a little planning solves everything.

The thing that affects the evo's turning cirlce is the lack of steering angle that you can get. Simply the wheels dont turn very much. It still handles well on the track because the actual steering ratio is very quick. The means that your inputs into the steering wheel are directed to the wheels very quickly.

the turning radius of the evo is pretty high. hey, my honda snivelic would just about turn around in it's own length. it is just the lock to lock. you wouldn't notice it at all on the track. i think i remember reading something here about a turning radius mod made by someone prepping a rally evo... the lock to lock might be an issue on a rally car. but on the rr tracks you'd never notice.

A few months ago I saw the video where they tested an Evo FQ400 against a Lamborghini Murcielago, at the end they talked about how bad the turning radius was, and it look pretty bad on TV. Now that I drive a 2005 Evo (it's been 3 weeks since I got it) I can say that I wasn't as bad as on the TV show. Compared to my previous car (02 Eclipse GT) the turning radius is perfect, I needed at least one more lane with the Eclipse in order to make a u-turn, THAT WAS BAD!!!

The best car I've driven that can do really sharp u-turns was a 92 Honda Prelude with the 4-wheel steering feature, I could do a u-turn in a 2-lane road!

like everyone said, only effects U-turns and parking in tight spaces. you won't notice a thing on the track.

Stop, turn the steering wheel to lock, engage 1st gear, drop the clutch and you have pretty fast u-turn

I think Jeremy Clarkson said it best; "Turning circle is worse than jupiters"

Its fine. People have to criticize the evo in some way. So far they've come up with its gas tank is too small and it's turning radius isnt good enough for Uturns!

The first time I backed my car into my driveway I thought I was going to hit the fence...and the first time I pulled out of the driveway I ended up driving thru the edge of my neighbors yard (one lane alley). But now I'm used to it, you just have to adjust.
