Dyno numbers, Buschur Stage 2
What's with the huge differences in dyno numbers?
All of these different Dyno numbers are confusing. You can't look at anything anymore without someone saying its on a different kind of Dyno. Mustang, Dynojet, etc. I find it horribly annoying that a dyno can read 18% in error. (numbers quoted from BR Results thread, I didn't want to change the topic there)
The BR website says Stage 2 yields 315whp. But apparently that reading is from the "old dyno" and it read too high.
I guess the new Mustang is "correct" and everything else just "reads high." So now I can expect a Stage 2 to only give me around 270whp.
It looks like my plan of heading out to Buschur, spending a couple grand, and driving home with a 300whp, mid 12 second car are probably not going to happen. Or am I wrong?
Sorry for the vent, but I was kind of really hoping to hit 300whp next spring. This kind of takes the wind out of my sails.

Honestly who cares what the numbers come out to be as long as it runs what you expect it to in the 1/4 mile? I see a dyno as a tool to extract the maximum HP out of your combination, so whether it's a mustang dyno, dynapack, dynojet..... as long as you left the shop making more power than when you went in, and it ends up running x.xx in the 1/4 then what is the importance in XXX whp besides ego points? I dyno'd my car last weekend and the numbers were quite high, but more importantly it did what I expected it to in the 1/4, and that is what makes me happy, not the dyno number. Sorry just my .02 in response to your frustrations...
It's just a number man... Would you feel better if they just made their dyno give you 300whp? Why don't you just go have your work done at Buschur if that's what you want and then go dyno back home on a Dynojet. Then you'll probably see your 300whp.
It's all relative..
It's all relative..
Dyno's are really only good for comparing mods (on the same dyno, same conditions) or tuning (much better on a load based dyno). Oh...and starting thread flame wars. The stage 2 will still get you in the mid 12's. Just because Buschur's new dyno reads lower than there old one does not mean there stage 2 makes less real world power. What I mean by saying real world is ET and MPH or track times. You will still have a 12 second car just with different dyno numbers.
right... several of us with cams dynoed on saturday and only one of us even posted over 300, except a WR and ECU+ did 328 or something and a gt35r was like 360. We really don't care that is "seems" low, though, because our cars all posted about the same #s and we all know we can get it done at the track. Several of our group who dynoed under 300 have run very low 12s. In other words dynos are good for one thing: comparing on that exact same dyno (not same brand... the very exact same dyno in the same building). Don't compare your #s to anything you read on this site, because it truly means nothing.
Mid 12's is mid 12's no fudge factor.
Do you want mid 12's or 300whp?
343 on a dynojet and 297 whp on a mustang.
I guess my car only has 297 hp and not 300+ Damn I wanted 400 and mid 11's

I fully agree that its completely just a number, but it still kinda bothers me.
Again I was just venting, I'm still going to hit up BR next spring for some work.
It just feels funny doing all of that work and only ending up with numbers that match the factory numbers. Of course WE as Evo owners know that the factory numbers are at the crank, but joe schmoe doesn't get it. I can speculate that it'll run 12s but I really don't plan on dragging it. So saying 300awhp would get the point across.
No I don't want to "fabricate" the 300whp, I want the number to be real, no matter what they are. I'm sure David and the guys at BR will have me walking out of there with a giant smile on my face.
Again, sorry, just a frustration thread. I'm still a happy Evo owner. My TB is pretty much all blacked out. Once the tails get back from evodave I'll post some pics to Sho&Shine.
Thanks for your posts.

It _is_ disappointing if you're expecting something and it doesn't materialize... It's hard to think "relative" when everyone's throwing big numbers around online. Believe me, I wasn't happy to see 295whp when I have all the things you see in my sig
At the very least, my TQ was higher than everyone else

Also, my "area under the curves" was pretty big, which means usable power! In fact a guy who had higher peak # than me, his power came on later and peaked a bit higher, but it's clear that I'd pull ahead of him in a race and stay ahead... Keep stuff like that in mind
I ran a 12.5 w/ 297whp & 298wtq (on an AWD DynoJet) using Buschur's Stage 2 package at about 22psi on pump gas... it's definitely achievable.
To give you an idea... currently, I'm running the Buschur Stage 4 package and making far more power than they posted it'd make on their website... ... a lot more, hehe.
