Why doesn't mitsu use the 6.5 TME turbo anymore???
Why doesn't mitsu use the 6.5 TME turbo anymore???
If this is such a good turbo, being sold by many aftermarket tuner shops to this day, then why doesn't mitsu use it anymore? Are there issues with the turbo not lasting long enough? I'm just trying to figure out if this is a worth while mod, considering it's a mitsu part.

it came with the 6.5 TME, in honor of Tommi Mäkinen. It was a specail edition to the Evo Family for his great driving in the WRC... im guessing they don't use it b/c:
1 he is no longer racing for them
2 When he retired they retired the turbo ( he came back for a few years... so should the turbo, factory wise... )
3 Oil prices have gone up so they look for more fuel effeciency with little performance loss
i don't truely know, just what i would guess.

I was told 3 reasons....
1) Cost of the Ti compressor components
2) Ti was not as durable for the compressor components in dusty environments
3) Cost again....
That being said..I have one!!

They still do use it.
All the RS evo's after the 6 use the Ti exhaust wheel.
While the evo7's and 8's used a 9.8t exhaust housing it still used a Ti wheel.
And now that Mitsi have upgraded the evo8 MR and 9's to the 10.5t housing it is back to what the evo6 RS, TME were using. Well the evo9 turbo is even better now with the Ti and Mag wheels in them now.
