Mismatched brands ???

I saw a post once that stated sometimes to the effect of " people need to research the parts they buy, because sometime they don't work well togeather .". Now can anyone tell me what this individual meant by not working wel togeather ?

i think he was trying to say that to get the best results u have to use parts that compliment eachother u can get a really good exhaust but if u get a crappy downpipe for example then its all a waste cause ur not getting the best results out of ur really expenssive a great exhaust... make any sens?? :/

Take an example of TBE, some downpipes are designed to delete the cat, some you have to buy a cat-delete pipe(giving you the option for a cat). That's an example of what is meant by not matching brands.

I think, they meant exactly what they said, ie do your research before you buy.
Eg: if you get an air-intake and don't get a tune for it, you'll run lean and get knock thus lose power ...
or get cams and not get a tune for it ....
or get injectors with the stock turbo and stock intercooler ...
or get a bigger turbo and not get bigger injectors and a tune to compliment it ...
These are all examples of mismatched parts/brands ...
