Lightbulb Need help on purchasing my first evo

Just need a little advice.

Should I purchase the 2005 evo VIII MR or should I get the 2006 evo IX?
I can't afford the 2006 evo IX MR so i'll be getting the regular evo IX or I could get any of the 2005 evo models.

I haven't looked on what the differences between the VIII and the IX's are, so i'm just trying to take a little shortcut here by asking what are the differences between the two besides the front bumper (bigger turbo, changes in steering, etc.)

What would you do, get the regular evo IX or get a 2005 evo VIII MR?

Any suggesstions? I need lots of help and I'm ready to buy the car tomorrow so I need some insight.

get the EVO VIII, and spend the extra cash you would drop for a MR and buy mods. I'd wait for all the bugs to be worked out of the IX, even though there arent drastic changes, but thats what I did..

What was your justification for buying the MR? Were you planning to track it? If so and you can't afford it, personally i would buy the RS before the GSR. but i'm all go, no show type, willing to sacrifice some sound deadening and creature comforts for performance sake.

The RS is cheaper and lighter than the MR and GSR and has many of the same performance perks as the MR including the aluminum roof, pedals, shifter, the gauge package, and better turbo.

If tracking it is not in the cards and you feel you can't afford the IX MR (msrp is increased only ~$850 from the 05 MR) buy the GSR IX. However, you can option it out with all the options and be close to the MRs price tag.

You will have a difficult time finding any sort of brand new Evo Viii imo. its not impossible but i would expect to dig deep or drive pretty far to find one.

hold out and get the IX at this point. the depreciation on a VIII would probobly be pretty high even though im guessing if you can find one they will give it away basically. i know if i was going to buy another evo at this point id wait

I thought about it and I'm either going to get the '05 MR or the '06 evo IX GSR.
I'm just wondering if the 6th gear really makes that much of a difference. Also it seems that the '05 MR has near the same suspension as the '06 evo IX.

I'll only be tracking the evo maybe once a month or so and I'll be using it as a weekend driving car.

I don't know if the 6th gear is necessary. But from what everyone has said, seems like I want to go w/ the 05' evo VIII MR.

What do you think, '05 evo MR or '06 evo IX GSR? They seem like their both the same except the '06 evo IX GSR doesn't have the 6th gear and is lighter than the MR.
