I would also like to know how this can be done........as far as i know it can't be done legally. Although i did hear of a dealersihp somewhere near Toronto that had one. If i remember correctly i think they were doing modifications to the front end to make it legal. I wonder if that is all that has to be done. If anyone knows more about this please reply.

Depends, do you want a legal car or do you simply want an evo? I've heard of people bringing in illegal cars under a different name (ie a skyline as a 240sx) so thats one option. If you have a really good relationship with your insurance company they might be able to do something for you, but thats a long shot. I think if you install the front crash bar to reach the specifications required you can have it inspected and approved, but I'm not sure. There's a guy in Calgary that has an evo but he's unwilling to tell people how he got it here and insured.

Best way is to buy in the U.S. and then just use in Canada.

Can't do that, you'd have to insure it in Canada which is the real problem.

I think you can buy insurance in the U.S. for Canada as a tourist insurance and just keep doing that. I know for Mexico that how we do it. Its also full coverage. Ask around bro, there is always a way

From what I've read thats not a good idea either. I think you're allowed to use your existing american insurance for 2 years, but after that you have to switch over to canadian insurance. What happens if you get in an accident and they notice that you have 1. an illegal vehicle, 2. insurance from another country even though you're a citizen and permanent resident of Canada? Something tells me they will be less than amused.

My guess is that Canada has similar crash test requirements as the US DOT. If this is the case, they would have to sacrifice a few Evos to acquire data, after which the Canadian equivalent of the DOT will specify structural changes to the car to meet their requirements.

There is a guy in Red Lake, ON (NW of Thunder Bay) with an EVO that is registered and insured in Ontario. Im pretty sure he brought his into Canada before the import inadmissibility list was updated to include EVO's in 2003. So, i think if you could get it registered you could probably insure it. You could check with customs to see if the EVO IX is on the list yet ( i know the list i checked wasn;t updated yet but they could have a different one) But, even if they let u bring in a IX it still has to pass the inspection, and i have no idea what the inspection entails.
