Best DP For 05'
Best DP For 05'
Hey, I was wondering which downpipe everyone has for their 05's? Or which seems to be the best.
My brother has the Helix on his 04 STi, and its nice.
I wanna get started on my exhaust, and I am wanting to start there because they are not that expensive, and money is an issue at the moment.

There is a thread called "downpipe thread" that has 15+ pages of downpipe info, testimonials and pics. I personally like the Tanabe 70mm downpipe. It clears the ACD and suspension and won't break your piggy bank. I'm planning to pick one up in the next couple days and hook it up to an Ultimate Racing 3" high-flow cat and the 3" RS*R ExMag exhaust already on my car.
I put on a Works 70mm (just over 2.75") and it fits great on my 05 MR. With a stock turbo and O2 housing, a 2.75" dp seems to work best.
But, as far as exhaust goes, you really should work from the outside in. Get a catback.
If you don't have much money, you cant go wrong with the Espelir catback. I just got one for $434 SHIPPED from Vivid Racing. Awesome deal. Very high quality piece too.

Being short on money is no reason to buy and install a downpipe. Just like doing a BOV first, doing a downpipe due to lack of funds will be just as useless for now. Yes, both a BOV and downpipe will be useful down the road, but you might as well spend your money on mods that help you NOW. A downpipe with a stock cat and stock cat-back will provide no gains. A $200 mail-in flash or an MBC w/boost gauge will cost about the same and will provide significant gains.

What would be the better path to take? Mail-in, or mbc + boost gauge?
I just put back the stock catback today. I have a megan downpipe with HF cat. Megan downpipe doesn't fit 05 evo well. It doesn't clear the lower tie bar and touches the transfer case. So I put a perrin tie bar and exhaust wrap for the insulation. I drove my car today. It didn't seem to lose that much power. I will test it soon with my logger and let you all know the difference in power VS my Helix catback.

No, I wouldn't normally tell you go get a mail-in flash first, because you will have to get reflashed for other mods later, but since you are short on cash, I made a suggestion. You have to compromise. If you do the mbc+gauge, then you'll make some extra power, but won't require a tune to make it work. You can then get a flash later for even more power.
Warr,
First off, I'm impressed you knew how to pronouce czubaka.
Secondly, as far as the mbc is concered...you're right, I don't have any experience with one.
I'm just thinking of the potential problems of someone saying "if I just crank the boost up a little more I could beat that cobra" and over working the turbo, superheating the air, etc...
