Question Oil Change Question on my 06 MR + Picture

Hey guys! Just trying to do the first oil change on my MR. Okay, so I get the car jacked up and noticed the oil drain plug has this nylon (safety cord?) attached to it so I can't get a socket over the drain plug. Do people normally cut this or what's the standard procedure? Please help! Try to get this done tonight. Thanks!

Stressful day for me. I was out driving the car here in WI when this hail storm came out of nowhere! I managed to get under a building overhang in just a couple minutes so there was no damage. What a scare to hear that sound on my new two week old Evo! The hail was between pee and small marble size. As I heard the sound I was thinking, "There goes my aluminum hood and roof".

Here's a picture I took last week.

its not a safety cord. its the sensor for your oil temp sensor on ur gauges. use a 19 (i think) mm wrench on it open ended and itll come off

LOL, glad I did not cut the cord! But how can I use my torque wrench and socket to snug the drain plug to 29ft-lbs? Yeah Yeah, I know you don't need to be exact but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Can anyone confirm that I need a 19mm wrench on the unique 06 MR drain plug?

im like 90% sure its 19mm. i remember it being an odd size. if you dont have one you can try out an open end adjustable for now, but dont strip it. i dont think u can get a socket over the plug.

With the oil temp sensor line attached how does work? Can this be temporarily disconnected?

Its not really "unique" it is the oil temp sensor for any evo equipped with the gauge package from the dealer, the MR just comes standard with it.

I was in Brookfield looking at houses when that hail started coming down, does the hail get much bigger than that??? I was in a rental car but it still sucked.

Don't move to crookfield, er uh brookfield. Try Franklin, better people, better houses and cheaper taxes.

I'm going to give it another shot today. Need to make a trip to the AutoZone for a open ended wrench that will fit this drain plug. Fireball - is it correct that I need a 19mm?

Hail can get as big as golf ***** or even softballs (rarely). I think golf ball sized or larger is generally considered large enough to put the hurt on cars.
