the "factory break-in" is 600 miles. and I'd be a little scaried buying a new 06 that has 80 miles on it (the dealership has probably been beating on it). Most people perfer a new EVO to have 10 or less miles on it.

sorry, not trying to dog on your new car. and people with too much "child" in them shouldn't own an EVO.

and thanks for all the nice congrats. i am more than happy.

i still have the volvo (600 lbs of weightred and 30% plus hp), which is admittedly quite a bit faster......but thats an unfair comparison since i have put 7 years and a not-to-speak-of amount money in it. it now is two door two seater wagon....and almost impossible to use as a daily driver.

the evo is an unbelievably awesome base, in terms speaking of stock car that is a enormously nice every day car. even the ride was surprisingly acommodate over bumps and bad roads....i dont even wnat to think about what it would be like with kw3, bigger IC, bigger turbo and injectors, el BC, 100 cell turbo back, AP racing brakes etc.

i think that for that amount of money this car is probably by far the best you can get. it makes my friends 04 gt3 look like a waste of money....

Shall i start a poll on what exhaust to buy? or is there THE solution out there? cat or turbo back?

hm. so you mean going to 1.3 bar once on a warm ( 90 C ) car prior to 600 miles on the odo kills the car? Come on....
its not like the car has been beaten all the time. and 20 out those 80 miles was me. another 20 the dealer who picked me up. and the rest was the transfer two weeks ago when the car changed dealership. And being from germany i really wonder how you put any stress to a car on an american interstate...
40 miles of 150+ on the autobahn would have been a different issue, you are right.

I disagree with both of you the only thing Mitsu says will happen is you will burn oil down the road. How many engines get built and immediately they are on the dyno or on the track.....yes, if you plan on keeping the car for 100K miles than maybe you should be ultra careful, but if you are like most EVO owners you'll sell within 2 years and move on I wouldn't be too worried about it.

..having "child" in you is matter of age.
Being 18 that might be something that needs some control.
Being 33 that might just be conserving the joy of life.

i reckon my age is higher than the "child" in me. just to put that into perspective.

but i appreciate preventing me from doing dumb things..

read the manual, it says to not accerate quickly for the first 600 miles. Also not suppose to go above 4k RPMs. Yes, if you beat (accerate quickly and go over 4k RPMs) on a car that has not been broken-in, it could led to bad stuff. I only say what I said cuz most people (like the dealership people that drove the car around) get into an EVO and want to just start going fast (I bet someone already redlined the car, very bad). Most of us that picked up EVOs new, got them with 10 or less miles on them (and most people even wanted to get there with 2-5 miles and the plastic still over the seats)

thats a good point i can understand. seals will need some cycles of warming and cooling to settle. at least thats what i heard quite a few times from mech's at VLN (endurance c-ship at nurburgring)

If you told mitsubishi that you didn't respect what the break-in explained in the manual, I bet they would say that your "abuse" would be responsible for more then just burning oil. I don't totally believe that you have to be really easy for the whole 600 mile, but I think that you should be really easy on the car for the first 250-500 miles then progessively be more aggressive.

if anything, than get the first oil out before you really be more aggressive. thats the point.
