best evo 8 year, lets hear the positive and negative

ok i had a sentra spec v when it first came out and it was a POS. every other year was fine no problems. my tranny went, clutch went, etc and it was all Manufacturer defects. is this the same with the evo 8's. is there any serious reported problems with the 03, 04, 05, 06? is it better going with a 04 since its not the first year. i know the 4g63 has been around for a while but i cant say much about the eclipses. ive heard and seen horror stories with them. im sure they worked out some of the "kinks" and the evo is built stronger. just wondering. thanks!

05 has supposedly stronger transfer case, a front diff standard on all cars, acd, the 10.5 hotside standard on all cars.. and a more agressive factory tune.. the 05 is far superior in stock form to the 03 and 04.

I got my **** beat by a stock 05. I got an 04. And I'm actually wanting to get rid of it for an 05 or 06 but I know that's not gonna happen.

i have one of the first 03's in the area and i have not had any problems with it other than my power steering pump dieing on me, that was fun. it screamed like a virgin. other than that nothing, but i have never launched it either and it only has 14000 miles on it so i guess only time will tell. but i dont beat the s h i t out of it either so.

evos are great cars no matter what anyone says, there may be a few lemons out there but there always are. I have even heard of an evo 9 engine blowing already, but you have to remeber for every 1 horror story told there are 200 happy stories not told. I would try to go with an 05-06 simply for the bigger turbo or differenet engine, but nothing is wrong with the older ones. Transfer cases blowing up are usually due to high rpm launch. People get mad when this happens, but launching a car at 6k is pretty tough. I had an 04 and drove the crap out of it. I didnt launch it often but I never had a problem with the car. I scca'd it once a month and it was an amazing car. I have friends with 03's who have never had a problem. In fact out of all the evo people I know, "around 20" only 1 has had major problems but he also has 450 whp. He had a clutch/tc explode on a hard launch "imagine that" but he is on stock block and drives the crap out of this car with 30psi and meth on stock turbo. It is quite amazing what these things can take so dont let a few horror stories keep you from getting an 03. You can pick up an 03 pretty cheap now.

'05-'06s out of the box are straight madness! Then, you have the MR as well.

No, but the tranny problems are suppose to be "fixed". 10.5 hotside also and ACD.

But i sure like the 06's seats.
