Kits are ok, but I think sometimes they miss the point. I think you could get just as much if not more power by paying half the cost of a "kit" by improving on the lacking portions of the Evo.

Intercoolers, Upper intercooler pipes, MAF tubes, and things of this nature are really not needed at the initial point of modification.

Full 3 inch exhaust, an open filter, manual boost controller, lower intercooler pipe, hotside upgrade, big cams, metal BoV (re-circed), and tuning is all you really need for the power levels that you want to achieve.

being from laguna seca (per your profile), I'd go with the local boys of Vishnu. It would be hard for me to believe someone from laguna seca would be more interested in drag racing vs. road racing, but maybe I'm wrong. Buschur is known more for drag racing, Vishnu is known more for road racing.

Nothing against Buschur, I have none of their products and have no first hand knowledge of their products, but I'm sure they are very good.

I have Vishnu products, and have met Shiv. He/they at Vishnu are very intelligent and EVO knowledgeable. It would just make sense to go with someone closer, for customer support after you buy the kit. Especially if you're more into road racing, Shiv's expertise lies here, and his setups will excel there.

Hmm, seems I can't go wrong with either. I'm going to do a little more research, perhaps...

Do a combo - I have buschur parts and a tune by Shiv himself on his new SMART Xede. That combo works well for me.....

+1

I'm a newbie here learning about the Evo b/c im considering it for my next car. Although i only know little about the Evo, I know enough about Forum Ediquette and the [SEARCH] button that I've learned to start with the mods you mentioned. Well, at least up to Full 3 inch exhaust, an open filter, boost controller... *(mbc or ebc, per preference).

The discussion of these kits Buschar & Vishnu put out is very interesting knowledge for the Evo boards & all of us newbies.

You say they're overpriced and not well planned; what does everyone else think?
Upgrade through stages like Buschar & Vishnu kits or sample your favorite parts yourself?

I'm not sure what I'd say just yet, but personally, with an exhaust as prominent as a fully open TBE, i'd want to make sure i got the sound i wanted. Though I hear BR's options for resonators and mufflers can please any disciminate ear!

Fan of Buschur here. The parts are track tested and proven. As far as 1/4 over Auto x someone mentioned, I know there was a Buschur sponsered car at last year's SCC ultimate car challenged that dominated the auto x track. Their mods will also get you into the 10's.

Go with Buschur... I've proved to car enthusiasts of all sorts that a Buschur modified evo is no joke... from a roll too.

Besides, I see tons of Buschur setups reach almost 400whp or more on the stock turbo on pump gas + alky/meth. Can't say that much 'bout too many Vishnu setups... however, I'm not knocking their setups either.

Need more info on how proven Buschur parts are? Send me a PM =]
