average life expectancy of Evo tires?

just went to get some snow tires on my girlfriend's 05 MR. shes had the car just about a year, and it only has 10,700 miles on it. she had snow tires put on as soon as she got it, so Im guessing the stock tires only have about 9,000 miles on them, and she does not drive the car hard at all, babies like grandma. the inside of the FRONT tires are worn almost down to the cord!! and there is some wear on the outside as well. the middle looks decent. the REAR looks good, even wear across the tire and not nearly as worn as the fronts. does this indicate an air pressure problem? or maybe an alignment problem? I know these are high performance tires, but 9,000 miles seems pretty low to me. My Falken Azenis on my ITR lasted way longer than that, and I beat the **** out of them lap after lap on the track.

side note, she has hit a decent size pothole in the road, and a big rock as well that actually popped her snow tire last winter. Im assuming something could be bent or out of wack. but the car still drives straight, so didnt think much of it at the time. now the car pulls a little to the right with those stock tires, but thats to be expected after looking at those tires after we put on the snows.

It's probably the alignment. It sounds like it has too much toe-out and/or negative camber in the front.

Evos have fairly agressive camber for a production vehicle. I get the impression that the occasional spirited drive helps the rubber to wear evenly. Some people have had the alignment re-done soon after purchase and maybe in her case that would be helpful (especially with the pulling)

I got about 18,000 miles on my stock tires, rotating them front-to-back with each oil change...when I got the car I really babied it and now i drive it fairly hard so I'd say that the tires have seen average-agressive miles and they held up pretty well. I switched to my snows a few weeks back but I probably can squeak another 2 to 3000 miles out of the Advans.

I experienced faily even wear in the front (probably a result of the agressive camber wearing the inside and agressive cornering wearing the outside) but more inward-biased wear in the rear (probably due to long highway drives at above-average speeds with a lot of stuff in the trunk).

Her wear seems on the short side of average but if you search you'll find people with much worse experience. Make sure she gets that alignment checked, rotates the tires often and pushes the car in a corner every now and then.

I am not "stalking" you, but I would say 10K safely, or the tires will become "choppy", but appear ok. mine lasted 16K, which i should have changed earlier. rotate doesnt really help as they are directional!

You can still rotate the fronts to the rear, which is the most important part of rotation. So what if you can't rotate side-to-side?

As far as rotation, with cornering affecting the wear on teh front tires more than the rear and no way to really balance out the wear on the back tires, front-to-back rotation helps prolong the life of all four tires in a situation where your front or rear tires wear unevely and faster than the other set.

There are a few owners that I know who have the tires un-mounted and re-mounted...in the case where your tires are directional but not asymmetric, this is an excessive, but helpful practice that allows left-to-right rotation.

Of course, the two people that I know who have this done have family members that own tire shops.

I have almost 19,000 on my Advans, and based on tread depth, should get another 5 to 8,000 more. I know, this is a rarity, but I ain't complaining.

Do you roll around neutral all day. I got 15k out mine before it was shaking in the highway and lost almost all tread. So I would say 12k is average life advans.

Evo factory alignments typically suck. I had the same problem and the dealer provided me with a free aligment cause they said it was way off. Before 12k they should give you a free alignment.

I really debated unmounting and then remounting the tires to promote longer life...I figured $100 and change to do it is less expensive than four new tires. Just how much mileage this would add is up for debate but I too noticed inner wear on the fronts but it was fairly even for the most part. I'm currently at 8K and I'm expecting another 8K out of them.

No, mostly highway miles. My commute to work is 70 miles round trip, pl,us I live in LA so you have to drive everywhere.

I got about 7K out of my tires including rotation. I've always said that you can really tell who is using an evo to it's potential if the rear tires wear faster than the fronts!
