03-05 EVO 5 Speed Owners => 06 EVO 5 Speed Owners
What are your thoughts/opinions of the new 5 Speed. I was comparing the ratios and I wanted to know how this affects the driving.
03-05 EVO 5 Speed Ratios
1st : 2.928
2nd: 1.950
3rd : 1.407
4th : 1.031
5th : 0.720
Final : 4.529
06 EVO 5 Speed Ratios
1st : 2.785 (higher)
2nd: 1.950 (same)
3rd : 1.444 (lower)
4th : 1.096 (lower)
5th : 0.761 (lower)
Final : 4.529 (same)
Does it buzz more RPM's at cruise on the highway?
Is the acceration in 1st gear worse?
Do you feel any benefit with the lower ratios in 3-5?
TIA!

no buzz / no transmission whine
feels a lot stiffer going into gear, if that were my discription going from 03 - 06.
accel is amazing.... it doesnt studder the car pressing the gas from 2500rpms on 5th gear (my 03 did), rather it just goes....
1st-2nd - there's no longer any more jerk, it's a smooth transition

I drove a IX for about a week while the dealership was finding me a VIII, (sweet courtesy car huh?) The difference in acceleration and cruising was huge, I miss the IX even though it was an RS and 4gs more then what I got the fully loaded VIII for.

that 1-2nd jerk is my LEAST Favorite thing about the car. In my previous car, when shifting between gears at speed, you could just let the clutch out as fast as you want. In this car I have to slowly let it out becaxuse there's that jerking you talk about.
Pisses me off!!! Any way to fix this?

The jerk is the same, it is only because of the way you shift and release the clutch and is no different on the IX. I believe it is the same transmission and mounting hardware, just different gearing which would have no affect on the smoothness of shifts except going into the next gear mabye 200rpm higher or so.

And shifting feels different on the IX. It feels a lot firmer going into gear, like it feels like it has upgraded shift bushings or something.
just go test drive one, you'll see.

Pertaining to a few previous posts... above....Does anybody know about the USDM RS 5-speed having the shorter 5th gear like the JDM boxes? My RS seems to hit spool easily in 5th from 70mph tip in.... I also run 3k RPM's@70 ...same for you GSR guys?
