Paranoid About My Car

Alright well recently I got tuned by Al for all the mods in my signature and right now I am just so paranoid about my car blowing up especially with alcohol being in there and the risk of the pump failing or a clog. I was thinking of getting some stuff to monitor my car. The only thing I have right now is a boost gauge. What do you guys recommend I get, to ease my paranoia lol? (I was thinking of a wideband o2 or KnockLink)

yea definitly get a wideband o2 sensor, its a must! and just see how your car drives/feels and dont abuse it too much and you should be fine. Make sure you know what your doing though

Unfortunately with alcohol, with any monitoring device, your engine will blow before you can save it.

Oh dont worry I wont be messing around with the settings on my car as I have no piggyback or standalone to modify my tune. I just wanted to know if the wideband was the way to go for monitoring my car when I was actually on it. I probably havent boosted past 10 psi since my tune from fear of engine failure and/or I/C piping blowing off as it scared crap out of me when it happened a few weeks ago.

Get a wideband and an EGT.

I hope SMC comes out with some fail-safe soon then, I think Snow Performance has some sort of failsafe that brings down the boost if the alky doesnt spray. But for now I guess I'll just have to rely on the gauges to monitor how my car is doing and hope nothing goes wrong.

Sorry for raining on your parade. If alky was fool proof, everyone on here would have it.

Good luck.

Yea.. I just have to do some preventive maintenance on the alky kit and hopefully with the conservative tune by Al, that my motor will survive in the case that it does fail.

Ok alky can be dangerous. If been around alot of people running alky in dsms and havent seen any problems from a failure. I seen bad things happen from a bad tune, but never from a alky problem.

My pump went out in my spyder the second day I had methanol injection and i was a noob to it so needless to say i didnt let out of the throttle and kept putting my foot back into it. Nothing ever happened.

Well I guess besides alcohol failure, would a wideband o2 gauge be a good investment for my car or more of just a waste of money since I wouldnt be tuning with it? Especially since the AEM UEGO gauge is so much cheaper now.

Gauges won't help you with the alky. If it fails, you could be screwed, but no gauge will be able to forewarn you. What's the point of having an alky kit if you don't ever boost or are too scared to run it hard?

AEM is the only true fail safe option.

The PLX-R500 mounted on your steering column with the LED light set to trigger at a lean AFR would be nice.

The wideband can alert you to a lean condition if there is some type of failure and allow you to let off the gas and possibly prevent damage. You will get an idea of where your tune is at with everything working properly and should be able to notice an AFR fluctation that could show a problem or failure. It would also be best to have a device to monitor knock (knock voltage). By the time your EGT reaches 1650 - 1700 plus degrees some damage most likely could already be done. I personally think with a wide band 02 and knock monitoring device an EGT is a mute point.

A pressure gauge like I ended up getting can be very helpful because if the gauge doesnt shoot to the normal 110psi of methanol then you know something is wrong and to let off. I would say the wideband would be good for one thing and that is so you can tune precisely.
