Looking for the light...Need opinions

Okay well, I've been on this forum for a decent amount of time. I considered purchasing an Evo or STi last spring. I had a Ford Lightning which I had sold a lot faster than I thought I would. So I was without a car for two weeks and it was getting out of hand. I'm nineteen but in the summer I work 50+ hours a week so it was becoming a problem needing to borrow a car.

I was leaning towards the Evolution VIII because this forum was very informative and anything I wanted to know I could find it here. My father, does not mind that I love performance automobiles. On the other hand color is one big thing to him. Understandable but I wanted a Rally Red Evo VIII. I went to my local dealer they only had a Apex Silver w/ SSL. I had no need for the SSL so I asked them to locate an Apex Silver without the SSL. Four days later still no phone call, which I could not believe since I was ready to hand them in the area of 30 grand.

My dad has a friend at one of the largest Ford/Subaru dealers ion the Tri-State area(Oasis Ford.) He advised me to take a look at the STi. I had done my research on both cars so I knew what I was looking at. I fell in love with a Crystal Gray 2005 STi. It had the short throw gold BBS wheels, everything I wanted. And because of my car situation and my dad up my butt about buying the car from his friend, I made the mistake of giving in. I bought the car. I got a killer deal but I settled for my second choice.

Anyway, the moral of the story is I should have bought a beater and waited for the IX. Unfortunately I did not so now I need some opinions. I put a $17,000 down payment on my STi, a majority of the money from the selling of my truck. I financed about $14,000. The question is even thought I'll take a hit in the financal aspect, do you guys justify hopping ship to the Evo? I have my own pros and cons but anyone with a reasonable opinion, please give me your thoughts.

Thank you Evo owners for your time, I know obviously that answers will be slightly biased but I'm expecting it. Any STi to Evo converts that want to tell me why you swapped, that would be awesome too.

**Edit** - I'm looking to trade for an Evo IX or a IX RS

Thanks,
Jeff

OK here your expected answer (and I mean it)...the utter performace and handling difference on the Evo will outweigh any negative feeling on the financial hit you'll take. ;-)

Here is my answer. There are a gazillion of these threads already and they all provide the same answers.
The financial descision is nobodys' but your own. The answer to which is better is obvious on an Evo board. It's up to you if you want to take the hit on selling a relatively new car and accept the inherent finanicial loss in doing so.

I have read half a gazillion of these threads and I always have the same thought...

My old man would have knocked me the f*ck out for buyin "A" 30k car when I was 19. Nevermind a slew of them in a short period of time.

Sorry, going back under my bridge now.

I don't think it's worth the money you would lose from the trade-in. You are only 19. There is still plenty of time in the future for you to make money and buy your dream cars.

Just remember, there's a lot more to life than cars.

Be happy with what you're driving. Many college students would kill to be able to drive a nice $30,000 car at your age.

They are both amazing cars, with a fair share of pros and cons. Just be happy with what you have. most kids your age would kill to have a car like that.

If you are already having doubts about having the STI instead of the EVO then I would go for the EVO. The doubts are only going to get worse and your never going to be happy with the STI. I'm also 19 and own an EVO and love driving my baby everyday. Now with the finacial aspect that is up to you. Good luck with your decision!

Chaotic, you sound alot like me. I am 18 and I have a World Rally Blue STi. I sold my Acura Integra, and had money I saved up from working with Kodak during the school year. I used that money and made a downpayment on an STi and stared financing 15,000. I have been doing alot of research, and determined that I am going to make the switch to the Evo IX. I work for the United States Department of Agriculture right now as a Computer Service Rep and have been saving up money ever since I made my decision to put a down payment on a Evo IX along with the money I get from selling my STi. My payments on my STi are 255 a month, so it is very reasonable, when I make the switch to the Evo IX it will be around the same range. Just make sure the Evo is really what you want, and don't make another switch when you get the Evo. Wait until you are done with college before you consider anything like that again. Good luck.

If your payments aren't too much more, and you can financially afford it, you should. There's no point in paying for a car you're not happy with. Money is money, and we all work hard for it. These are the little things that make us happy and worthwhile. You know what/how your financial situation is best. If you can afford it and this is what you really want, do it and you'll never regret it. If you don't, you'll always wonder.

this is the kind of response I was looking for...money is money and I guess I only do live once so I might just have to grab the swing and go with it...the trade will probably go down later winter early spring...when I have more money saved up...thanks for the responses so far, they definitely helped me
