1/4 mile speeds vs est. hp
1/4 mile speeds vs est. hp
hi there.. need some questions on 1/4mile trapspeed correlation to engine hp..
My autotrans evo clocked a best of 14.1s with speed of 101.4mph before I adjusted cam timings. ..
After adjustments, I got a 13.7s with speed of 103.4mph ..
BTW this is done at sea level and high humidity with temps around 80 F..
My question is how good is using trapspeed to estimate hp ?? and does 1-2mph mean significant increase in HP or it doesn't ??
Thanks..

its definitely the cheapest way to measure your hp, not as accurate as other methods such as dyno but as you know that is not always accurate as well. by calculating ur hp using ur qtr mile time/trap speed and weight seem like a valid way to estimate it, it should give u an idea of where ur car stands.
Don't know much on the difference on the speed with an automatic, cause with a stick, depending on how you drive, you can vary your speed 1-5 MPH... But to get 4/10ths of a second faster is definately a plus in HP I would say...
